    I do have a genuine copy :).

Got it from a microsoft site which the college gave us access to.

I too have the disc, but how do you suggest that the OP does the same without spending the same as she would buying Windows 7?

The problem is not insurmountable, but using XP 64bit as your main OS is not advisable.

There are even cheaper options That one under £170. But only a 250GB Hard drive.

Yes, I saw that too but took into account of the OP's comment about storage.

XP 32 bit will still perform very well on this machine and the other one I mentioned. OP needs to bear in mind that XP will only be supported for another 2 years.

One other thing worth mentioning is that the BIOS may need tweaking to enable XP to be installed. I've recently installed XP Pro on a Dell that I'm selling and initially it wouldn't load and Blue Screened. After some research I discovered that the machine was not meant to have XP loaded and there were no drivers available. However, I changed the RAID setting and lo and behold XP loaded okay. Managed to sort all the drivers except the on board sound driver so installed a cheap sound card and now it's great.

It's worth mentioning as some new motherboards may need similar tweaks when installing XP.

lack of space can be resolved by buying a new internal or external usb hard disk, both far cheaper than a new machine, and/or clearing out any dead wood with ccleaner and windirstat, and using all partitions if your hard disk is split into 2. how big is the hard disk, and how much is free, and what is using all the space up?
