higher salt and sugar? that's rubbish. I read the labels as its a habit from when youngest son was dairy allergic - I still do it because I need to keep an eye on OHs diet. the reason Aldi's stuff often tastes better is because the 'QUALITY' is there.
Agree again...i dont work for aldi btw...but check the meat content on the majority of aldi packaged meats and its 97 to 99% ..some of the pricier ones at tesco were only in the mid 70,s0 -
Their own brand cheeses from an award winning little somerset farmer are fabulous and cheap too0

I have to say I disagree that Lidl/Aldi have more salt/sugar in their products than others, though I shop more often in Lidl and familiar with their products more. I also shop at Sainsburys/Morrisons for certain things. I am a definite label reader and I would say on the whole they have less salt/sugar than other supermarkets. It does vary of course, but my guess would be that the difference is probably neglibile but I always label-read before I buy a new product.

I opened a 'fresh' pack of Lidl cod fillets last night, still 2 days in date to cook in a home made Parsley sauce. The smell was odd to start with but then vacuum packed stuff sometimes is initially. As it cooked it still smelt odd so I binned them in the end, can't risk being ill. There is still a lingering odd smell in the house this morning. Won't be touching anything out of that end fridge again!
Never had problem with milk but I buy the long life stuff by the tray loads when its on offer, we are used to the flavour and you can store it in the garage until needed.
Hopefully the Cod was just a bad one off as I also had some Lidl fresh salmon in the fridge bought the same time. Had it last night on salad and it was fresh and delicious, few minutes in the fry pan with a dash of olive oil and lashings of lemon juice, very moist and flaky.
Talking olives, Lidl had (still have?) some monster jars of olives in at £3.99 in the foreign specials area. Cracked it open last night and if you like olives these are awesome! huge and firm and delicious, really premium grade. Don't be put off by the big jar, says on the label good for 2 weeks after opening kept in the fridge we will get through them no problem as scrummy.
(makes a great healthy evening snack drained and with a bit of dip like Humus)0 -

Tried Lidl's Bellarom Nespresso pods today they are very nice,£1:79 for 10 which works out £1:28 cheaper than the Duallit pods from Costco.0

Aldi Lasagne fresh from chiller...very nice and excellent value..think its about
£2.69 and would serve about 3 people.0 -

The Roth stuff is actually pretty run of the mill supermarket fodder in terms of 'serious chocolate'. If you enjoyed that, their Choceur range is a lot better and excellent VFM.0 -

I will try the Choceur on your recommendation but I certainly don't think the Moser Roth is run of the mill. I tried some Cadbury's Bournville a few months ago and in comparison it was revolting.
I had a look in Aldi today but decided that perhaps Choceur isn't for me although I will try the dark chocolate with hazelnuts at some point.
I buy the Moser Roth 70% chocolate and it comes in 5 little bars (30g each I think). DH and I share one each night. I fear that if I bought a 200g slab of Choceur I'd eat far too much.
But that's all about me not Aldi.0
