Aldi swiss mountain chocolate bar - scrummy! Very much like the m&s ones. They are 99p each but I cannot remember the weight.

The single manned checkout and long queues are the main feature that puts me off them.

I get that, but i'd rather wait and save a shed load of dosh tbh;)

    is it really cheaper??
can i use milk tokens/healthy start vouchers in them??
what is best to buy where??
I already tried aldi washing powder and love it and that is far cheaper than the supermarkets!!
Is it better to split shopping between sainsburys/ aldi/ lidl/ morrisons to get all the deals/ cheapest stuff but waste petrol or to miss out on some of the bargains and just shop in one place but maybe move shops if it gets too expensive and go cheaper for a while
ie sometimes on mysupermarket its cheaper for me to go to sainsburys and other weeks not as tesco has better deals etc but by just going with whats on mysupermarket i miss out on the deals in places that are not on there. IYSWIM.
    sorry to ramble.

Or, go between 7pm and 8pm in the evening. Our Aldi is dead at that time. Nice and pleasant to walk around and no waiting at the checkout (they even wait for you to pack your bags as the stuff comes through the till as well)...
  • for the last two months Ive done my main shop in Aldi, then gone across the carpark to finish off in Asda for the bits I cant get in Aldi. My weekly shop is now always under £50 between the two shops, where doing it all in Asda was always £70-£80. We arent eating any differently. I started by trying a couple of new things each week in Aldi and have stuck with the majority!

Lidl's Ginger Biscuits are the nicest I have ever had, and only 39p for a big packet.
I also think that their pastries are nice and very good value.
Their chocolate digestives on the other hand should be avoided.

I find Lidls fruit and veg to be of a good quality and they tend to last quite well. I also like Lidls mince and chicken breast, which are cheaper than Iceland or Tesco, and I don't find the quality to be any different. (The mince may even be of a better quality!)
They also sell some very nice and cheap sliced hams, and sliced chicken breast in a honey glaze (Yummy!!)

On the alcohol front I have tried nearly all of the wines on sale in Lidl and they are mainly like either hydrochloric acid, or watered down cats pee. Though ironically I find the 99p sparkling perry to be quite refreshing, and often stock up on a few bottles when its on sale. Their cider isn't too bad, but it isn't that much cheaper than brands in Tesco, so may not be the best buy.

Oh, and Lidl is also very good for Pepsi lovers. Its nearly always on offer of either 99p for a bottle or 2 for £2.50, which is much better than the around £1.80 Tesco and Asda charge.

I would definitely give Lidl (or Aldi, there isn't one near me to compare) a go. Its very cheap for some things, though I wouldn't switch overnight as you will probably be disappointed. I personally shop at Lidl twice per week and pop into Tesco extra quickly once per week for the extras and things you can't find in Lidl, though that isn't too many things. :)
  • And...spinach and ricotta tortellini aldi 79p
straight to wok noodles 2 pack 79p, passata 29p, wholemeal bread 800g from 49p, pasta sauces (good quality, no msg etc) 89p. Happy days :D

Aldi - The profiteroles are gorgeous. They are in the fridge section with little pots of tiramisu, you get 2 pots with 3 profiteroles in them, the chocolate sauce is divine.

    Their brioche is lovely, too.

Lidl Formil laundry liquid is fab, lovely strong clean smell. I wouldn't buy the round cotton wool pads again from there, they look like good quality but leave white bits stuck to my face which is very annoying!

I love Aldi's Smoked Processed Cheese Slices with Ham, £1.19 a pack and really yummy!

I have to admit I would struggle to do a whole shop in either store though.
