Suggestions please for a relatively new car that has all the 'whistles and bells' on it. Spec is to be fairly economical, auto drive, plenty of power for safe overtaking only, low road noise, zenon-type headlights, bluetooth CD/phone etc, ie 'loaded' if possible. Am out of touch these days with cars so would appreciate ideas of makes/models I should research - thanks.

Budget?? Brand new BMW 5 series should cover most of those "wants" but you won't get a brand new BMW if you only have a 5k budget lol

What do you define as 'fairly economical' or 'relatively new'?
If you want properly loaded, you'll want a merc S class, jaguar XF, audi A8, BMW 7 series, VW Phaeton, citroen c6/peugeot 508 even

If you're on a strict budget, then a renault vel satis might suit, a hell of a lot of car for pocket money.

And unfortunately it's about as desireable as the clap.

(only joking, quite like the insignia really - get the impression the op wants an "impressive" car though)

Thanks guys for your comments (and the sales pitch !) am running one of last Signum Elite 3.0 tdi made and love nearly everything about it (except sport wheels/tyres as these and terrible roads today do NOT gel).
Time to 'down-size' now (tax/fuel/pension etc) but am so out of touch with any alternatives available these days -will still need a 4/5 seater. Not out to impress -but again prefer to still be something 'nice' and comfortable ride/economical/diesel/auto/bit of 'poke' /plus/plus - as original preferred spec - feel there must be something that fits the bill and a point in the right direction would be appreciated - thanks

Still need to know budget. There is a 5 series for any budget really, 530i or 530d are two of the best in the range - if it's something smaller the latest C class is a lovely car inside and out and is nice to drive. Again you can take your pick of petrol or diesel engines.

I personally hate everything audi are punting out at the moment apart from the A7, though have a real soft spot for the passat CC again lovely looking motor.

Again without a budget the list will vary wildly. Nearly all of those "wants" can be found in a 10 year old 2k car or a brand new 40k car.
