My Rights as a Tenant

Council tax investigation team have just left,
What happens depends on who's name has been on the council tax bill. If it's his and he's been claiming a single person discount then that will have be taken off but apart from that if its a Council Tax HMO then he's safe however if its deemed by the Valuation Office to be 4 separate flats then its the occupiers of those flats who are the ones who need to worry as they'll be charged from the date the Valuation Office decide the properties should be individually banded from.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0 -

First it was "What might happen if x takes place because this, this and this is wrong and I could be at risk?" and transformed into "I've done this but didn't tell you before and now I'm rationalising why that was the right thing to do and why I'm not to blame for any of the consequences. And anyway, the landlord is a dirty foreigner and deserves everything he might get."
Can you not see that events are unfolding as this thread goes on, that's why things are being transformed, its a fluid situation AS I SEE IT.
This NEGATIVITY is not constructive0 -
Shelter are forever optimistic - the council don't have to accommodate you, it's a power they may choose to exercise, not a duty. Pressured london borough - no chance they'll exercise it willingly0

CALL THE MET IN, this is FRAUD0 -
Yes, stop paying the rent, you might have a rather large Council Tax bill to pay and maybe when the council have finished with the landlord homeless with twenty minutes to pack and no obligation from them that they will even give you the equivalent of a bunk-bed at the YMCA0

Events aren't unfolding as the thread unfolds tho.....
Kier333 stated he would be rehoused by council even tho he had his own property. Only when queried did he state his place was rented out. That isn't something that happened during the story. That was there in the begining. So he should've said when questioned about his own property...yes i have a place but I rent it out. That what I meant in my later statement people can't help any poster if ALL the facts aren't known.0 -

If one has a tenancy agreement, one is not a squatter.
To OP:
Look, a lot of the stuff that's seen as negative is actually realism. Like it or not, there are procedures, and you can't take the law into your own hands.
And you know what, the people who are posting who are 'negative' are genuinely trying to help. Warning you not to rely on being rehoused is advice to try and HELP you prepare for something which is likely to happen given all the other posts seen on these forums. And the other thing to remember is that unfortunately, YOU will probably be chased for the council tax, having lived there, even though the landlord took the money for it. Why? Because it's ultimately your responsibility to make sure it's paid. To get the money back, you'd have to claim it off the landlord through the courts. Refusing to pay it could land you with a fine. Now, that's not a positive thing to say, BUT, it's a forewarning, to help you avoid unfair extra charges. However, you don't seem to be taking things that way-instead focusing on people who are telling you you can do whatever you want. Now, that option IS open to you, and it must be really tempting. HOWEVER, doing whatever you want because the contract has been 'broken' wont stick in COURT, where they can attach CCJ's etc. It's your choice if you want to risk them, or behave as you have agreed to in the contract, thrugh gritted teeth, and then claim your costs back from the LL through the courts afterwards (in addition to legal expenses).
And stop insulting the posters here who try to help. If you think everyone who posts is pathetic/a scrounger, then really, why are you asking for advice here? Your time would be better spent asking elsewhere. If it rains, it rains.
We'll be in the street, looking thunder in the face,
Singing la la la la la,
I wont change0 -

He stated his property is rented out with a 12 month tenancy agreement, is this not a legally binding contract? are you saying he can chuck them out, just disregard the CONTRACT he made with them? I would say he never mentioned it because its IRRELEVANT. Would you understand it better if he stated ALL IRRELEVANT facts in OP.0 -
You are not paying for a flat - its a room In a house,
You are not paying Council Tax - he's pocketing it
STOP HANDING MONEY OVER. Advise all in property to do same... Simples0 -
I have a sneaking suspicion that this Johnny-Come-Lately lukesy character is the person the OP shares this luxury Central London studio with.0
