We have booked a butlins holiday too - the first time we have done a sun holiday - and I too realised that once you add on all the extras it is about the same as if we had booked directly. We just wanted to get a cheap trip away but isn't turning out like that. Was hoping that we could upgrade at Butlins but not sure how we go about that as there has been no option so far and worry that that is just going to make the holiday quite expensive.0

Our holiday in total is 317 with the extras. you can upgrade to silver for i think its forty pound but to be honest we stayed in silver and standard and i actually think the standard rooms are ok.0

hi
i have never been to Butlins but would like to next time - can you break down the cost of the extras so i can see how it gets to 317 pounds - it seems so much more expensive than booking Haven through the Sun promotions - the most i have ever payed on a Sun Holiday is £120....how much are the extras at Butlins?

its
linen £12
food£162
entertainment£48
service charge£35.80
We always add the food as its really good value for money then we only really buy drinks. Its all you can eat and there is a really good selection. If youre going selfcatering if you take the food money off then that will give you an idea of how much it is. I did a haven one as well last year and it was £98 they are a real bargain but you cant beat the facilities at butlins.0 -

ah i see its so much more expensive because you are eating out...
so if you go self catering then it is the same price as the sun holidays to haven...
can you choose if you get room only and go half board or if you get a chalet and go self catering?
We would want self catering...

Yes, you get a choice of self catering or half board. the self catering is in apartments and the food is a room only. We found when the kids were younger the apartments were better for the little ones but ours are older and we prefer to have the food and we are hardly in the room. You can go selfcatering and then pay for the food court when you get there if you want we did that a couple of times. There is a burger king and a fish shop andpizza place but we found when we did this it cost more then booking the food.
We sometimes take a couple of pot noodle and cup a soups incase we get hungry but it never happens we are so full.0 -
Got priority booking with the Sun yesterday. Going to Isle of Wight and got allocated a Hoseasons 'Bronze chalet' (Sounds frightening)! Rang Hoseasons 3 times with different questions relating to upgrading to silver or silver plus and got given 3 different prices each time! Each time I was asked what I had been quoted but refused to say! Me thinks they make it up as they go along and try to get as much out of you as they can!! Does anyone know if it is worth leaving it until later to upgrade?????0

We did consider the portable heaters but didnt want to leave them on all night in a caravan, but it may be the only option. We are going a month later than we did last year so hopefully the nights wont be as cold.
We usually take a couple of very cheap fan heaters. That way, if we forget to take them home we haven't really lost much.
We don't worry about leaving them on, because the electric is included in the rental.
(Bit loathed to leave the gas fire on as it can be a burn hazard to youngsters and I'm paranoid about the carbon monoxide issue.)
Have been in the summer before now and felt chilly! I'd take heaters!0 -
I have booked Butlins and this is our breakdown
£60 for cost of holiday as £15 each as going in July
£35.80 service charge
£12 linen charge
3 x entertainment passes £36.00 (gob smacked that you have to pay for a child under 3)
£10 for ground floor accommodation
Total £153.80
we have not gone for food as we have heard the food is all the same and you get bored of it. Would rather go to wetherspoons and eat out.
I dont think this is too bad. We were going to upgrade to silver but they wanted another £40 and it only looks as if it is beds made up and a microwave so really couldnt be bothered.
Make £200 by end of January... £20.42/£200

I went to ruda in north devon a couple of years ago and we only had basic accommodation - we were allocated a brand new caravan with proper furniture dvd freeview, flat screen tv, big bay window. heating, microwave, 3 bedrooms one of which was en suite which also had a built in flat screen into wardrobe. Also had balcony outside and was really nice. We went to a haven camp and paid over £100 to upgrade and all we had was a newer caravan same size, never had proper seating area it was like wooden benches, very basic indeed. We even had to go out and buy a frying pan as the one supplied was terrible. We had no heating and it was freezing I was unwell with flu and the gas ran out after a few hours had to wait over 1 day for a new gas bottle, ended up coming home early so we would never again upgrade to be honest we dont spend much time in caravan anyway
