I am a UK resident with a property in Spain. I am looking for an alternative to my current overseas bank (Banco Santander). I need a euro account which will allow me to set up direct debits (eg for gas, electricity) for my Spanish property. Is this practical or must I stick with a Spanish bank?

Direct debits are pan Single European Payment Area. I know KBC Bank in Ireland will let you open an account remotely and it will support euro direct debits.

Only DKB accepts an international post code online, Comdirect needs to be done via PDF that you then post with any other information that they require from you.

Make sure that you get it all correct and there's no mistakes as it can lead to rejection. If you get stuck let us know and we'll help otherwise Comdirect has a fantastic telephone team.

Edit: I downloaded the PDF and it appears that they require you to do PostIndent through this method, call them and confirm you can do it via webcam. I don't have personal experience of the webcam as I did PostIndent while in Germany but it should be fine so long as you confirm beforehand.

I just found a list of German banks that allow you to register using a webcam instead of Postident.

Does anyone, and I'm hoping SLZ will read this, know whether any of these allow UK residents to join?

MSE won't allow me to include the URL, but if you search for the words girokontovergleich dot net konto-ohne postident I think you'll find the list.

I have not found any info in KBC IE.

Has anyone tried to withdraw more than EUR 300+ in a day (but not exceeding EUR 650) outside Belgium without any problem ??

If you don’t want the hassle of opening a Euro bank account then try a currency company like Thomas Exchange, they can convert euro payments into pounds for you https://www.thomasexchange.co.uk/buyback.asp

    Reasonable deal:
    - But it is still inferior exchange rate compared to specialist travel CC and DC.
    - Also consider time needed to travel to pick up currency.

It is good if you need a small amount of currency prior to traveling abroad and do not mind to waste time traveling to pick up the currency in their office.

The point of opening Euro current accpunt is that you could do currency exchange anytime when the £/EUR exchange rate is good to be used in the near future. So locking the exchange rate in your EURO account.

I've stopped using my KBC account at the moment, since getting a Revolut card. The functionality is almost the same if you don't need SEPA direct debits, but with UK based service. No fees, provided your usage isn't huge (like mine).

When you need £200+ a month, combine them both. You will get the best of both worlds.
    - You exchange £/EUR using Revolut when the exchange rate is favourable. You could even do it bit by bit on daily basis.
    - When the amount of EUr in your revolut is already a few hundred Euros. Transfer it to KBC using IBAN No. free of charge.
    - You could withdraw EUR using KBC Debitcard your only limitation is the daily limit

THOMAS Exchange don’t just do currrency, they can receive Euro bank transfers and convert the funds to Pounds which will be transferred to the customer’s Uk ac. Therefore avoiding the need to open a Euro bank ac.
