I initially emailed it, but received no response. So I posted it.

They then emailed asking for additional ID documents, which I submitted back by email (they were just PDF utility bills). This was confirmed, then I heard nothing. Chased it up by email a few weeks later and finally received the account documents/card.

The advantage of an Irish bank is they speak English and most things in Ireland work in the same way as they do in the UK.

I have emailed them the completed application form and all the proofs they need this morning. I will follow up with posting later in the week if I do not hear anything.

The whole application can be made on the KBC Ireland mobile banking app, the final step being to take and submit photos of the four proof of identity and address documents. I did this yesterday, but it may fail on the second photo ID requirement as I only have an old style paper driving licence.

When I had tried that, it stated 'System Error. Please contact Helpdesk.' just after I chose account security details about half way along. I am also only opening a free basic account which most banks do not allow to open online, however I never got to the part where you choose an account in the app so see if it was there.

I saw no option for a basic account during the in-app application. If I understand correctly, I should qualify for the 'Plus' account with no fees when they see that I am over sixty.

Today I received a letter (dated 19th April) stating my basic bank account with KBC has been opened. It enclosed a sort code and account number. Will let you know when I receive my card.

Applied last week myself, got asked for a bit more info than what I'd sent, and just today got a text advising me that in two days I can start using secure banking so it sounds like it's being processed.

My debit card arrived today and my pin yesterday. I just need my online activation code and I'm good to go!

The online activation came in two parts, about a week apart. Oddly, it only activated the mobile app banking. To get into the actual online service, you need either a physical token or a code generated from the app. I never received a physical token, so have to login to the mobile app to get into online banking.

I'm planning to move to the Irish Republic in January next year and have opened a KBC account online and uploaded scans of my ID documentation.

Fingers crossed it works out. If not I might have to go into a branch next time I am over.

Thanks to this thread, I have applied online and uploaded my docs via the app. Will post back when everything is sorted.
