Scottburgh is half way between Durban and Port Shepstone. We used to go to Scottburgh for hols when we lived in Zimbabwe. It is still a beautiful beach.

On the subject Of PPI's, what security do they provide then??? I have an appointment with an insurance guy at beginning of March to discuss other options so will need to do some reading so I am better prepared this time! Thanks for the reassurance re debts dying if anything happens to you.
you haven't described the SA situation in sufficient detail so i can't comment really.
if you have dependants then i'ld say life insurance (i.e. that pays out on death) is essential but it basically cheap.
now the other things like redundancy, or illness is expensive and often does not pay out because of some technicality... and if associated with a loan is usually very very expensive as yours is.. you dont have long to cancel it so do it asap.0 -
scorpioto wrote:Hi skollieal, welcome, you have made a very smart move by coming to the MSE and especially the DFW forum, the people on here are fantastic, I can,t offer you a lot of advice but I can offer my support, I can only say that the thing that opened my eyes more than anything was when I started a diary which I would advise you to do, you won't beleive the rubbish you spend your hard earned money on, also read other threads on the forum.
On another subject where in South Africa does your mother live? I lived in SA in the 80s for 9 years in the Free State in a small town called Allanridge.
Hi Scorpioto
was just reading your post and what a small world it is indeed. My parents live in Allanridge at the moment but they only moved there last year.

How are things scolli, have you been reading other posts to get ideas? and have you started a diary yet? I got a bit of bad news this week from my frend in Allanridge, the engineer I worked for when I was on the mine who was a good friend got murdered on his farm, apparently they have caught the people who done it, you just never know the minute that is why we should live every day the best we can and enjoy our time no matter what debt we are in we can still be happy and enjoy ourselves. Take care and good luck with your debt busting. Give my best wishes to your mum in SA.

OMG
Really sorry about hijacking your thread. Welcome to MSE by the way.
I used to live in Zim and SA and guess where we went on holiday when I was a kid ...
Scottburgh !!!!
We used to stay in Peace Haven :A and the other flats on the otherside of that green field Miranda Court I think it was called. Used to love sliding down those slopes on a piece of cardboard !
What wonderful memories and I just had to say howzit from a fellow countryman.0 -
Hi izoomzoom
This is fast becoming a reunion, I am sure that peacehaven was where we stayed at Scottburgh, are they the high storey flats with lots of steep hills around them with braai areas on the grass at the side and car parking on a raised level at the back. The year we were there we drove down to the wild coast, the casino had not long been built, went to the valley of 1000 hills to the Zulu kraal, great holiday great memories. Scenery is breathtaking nice roads as well unlike this country.
Ah well the weekend is here, the weather is getting warmer and life is great, keep smiling and get bustin those debts.

Hi Tony, oh God I am so sorry to hear about your tragic news. What a shock that must have been for you. However it is good news in a terrible situation that they have caught the people who committed such a crime - which is quite unusual in SA these days I am sad to say. You are right, life is too short so we have to stop and smell the coffee/ roses etc. You and your friend's family are in my thoughts though.
Ja i have been reading all the posts...... when I have a spare couple of weeks! I love this site and feel optimistic about one day conquering the debts. Had been doing a diary before I discovered this site, but am being more specific about it now!
thanks, will pass on good wishes to Mom. Going home for 4 weeks in April-first time I have paid cash by saving instead of piling it on a credit card! That has to be progress.
Speak soon. Keep your chin up
