This little social router uses dd-wrt (Google it) but a version that is closed for FON use only. If you were to be able to flash it with a full wrt version you could then and only then use it as wireless bridge. They are yet to be able to do this with the latest firmware on the Fonera.
I was hoping to use it as as a WDS access point but the connection is very much closed (ie: you select the bandwidth you share from your broadband and they definately can't see your files etc). It uses a mixed secure connection of both WPA and WPA2 but this is only for your part of the connection so you could actually change it at will.
If a user tries to connect to a website using your hotspot a FON 'splash' page instead comes up. Telling them to log in with their FON account or buy a days worth of time for €3.00 or $3.00 (of which you'd get 50% if you sign up as a BILL). See the FON access point appears to them as not needed a password therefor encouraging them to at least look at the option to connect.
This is a great gadget especially if you live near a main road, cafes etc and could actually end up with a cut of funds raised with all the connections created on your hotspot. Not LOADS of money but again something for free is ace! Or if you sign up as a LINUS you get free Wifi roaming.
I hope this informs someone of it's uses.
