I was about to post this...
I imagine this post will create an amount of discussion from techies and paranoid net users fearful of identity theft etc but if you know what you're doing this is a very nice freebie indeed.
In simple terms you share a small part of your wireless bandwidth with other users of the system whilst your traffic is protected in the normal most secure way of WPA2 and mac filtering ( or WEP etc ).
If you live in a large town or city you can expect that there will be other registered users nearby and can therefore expect your bandwidth to be shared.
HOWEVER if you live in a rural area, small village, or away from other users then the chances of you ever sharing your bandwidth would be very slim indeed. Check on the website below to see if there are users near to you.
There is also a way of making a bit of cash from sharing your connection too and I'm sure someone will comment on the Terms/Conditions of their ISP in relation to shared connection etc but I really can't see that being an issue.
Finally there is the issue of a person grabbing content which attracts the law through the free connection, I'm not a statasticion but I would suggest that the chances of this are slim to negligable (unless you read the Mail or Express doom dailies).
Ok, so it is available here

Can someone explain a bit more about it though I don't really get it? Can this be used as a normall wireless router like I use my current speedtouch one.0 -
Thanks ! - just signed up!
I've beeing thinking of getting one for ages (when it was £5 plusP&P), despite the fact that there are so many unsecure "normal" networks that it's possible to connect to (to check email etc.), it's nice to have the added ability to use the fon network too !!0 -
