I had trouble with this company over a car I purchased with them a few months ago. I took the company and the owner to court and won. As a precaution I have notified companies house of the judgement to safeguard me in case they try and file to dissolve the company.

They were very economical with the truth, saying they had tried to contact me, but they had not had any response, either by letter or telephone, but as I kept evidence of all phone calls to them, I printed a itemised bill from my phone provider, and recorded delivery on letters and emails, they looked pretty annoyed when I produced this in court. The Judge saw right through them. He gave them 14 Days to pay or a judgement will be recorded against the company. I have already put the next step in place, as I am certain they will not meet that deadline. I am Looking forward to the next chapter.

Cool , unemotive logic is the way forward.

These forums are a lifesaver in helping consumers avoid dodgy sales, especially when it comes to the motor trade.

I've been looking into buying a new car and saw what I thought to be a good looking motor at AutoBristol - autobristol.com/used-cars/bmw-5-series-bedminster-201406235239129

Having seen the reviews on this and a number of other sites I thought I'd do a bit of digging. I hope this post helps others make their decision before approaching.

The advert states that the car has a full service history and was last serviced at 67,000. In fact the car does not have a full service history (3 or 4 services max) and the last service was at about 50k - what was advertised as the last service was actually some other minor work. Therefore the last service was almost 20k miles ago and now long overdue. Those lovely fellow down at AutoBristol know this and refuse to amend the advert to tell the truth.

All I can say is do your research and ask as many questions as possible. If they don't give you answers to the following then they are hiding something:

With the full service history ask for the mileage and garages the services were done at? Ask for photos of the service book with stamps etc - call the garages to check they have seen the car

    Check how many owners

Were there any advisory's on the last few MOT's. Ask for a photo of the last MOT certificate

Ask for a photo of the V5C so you can verify dates when you do a HPI check

Beware - out to deceive from the start. You have been warned!!!
  • Auto bristol ltd!!!!!
    Hello barneydog1,

I came across your post on the forum while searching for any review or history for the auto bristol ltd.

I purchased a bmw x5 from them two months ago. I recently noticed that the ENGINE MALFUNCTION light does not come on. To my horror I took the car to a bmw specialist and was inform that there is no bulb in the dash board. He also told me that this is a common practice for dodgy dealer to hide any problem with the car. The specialist also diagnose three problems with the engine,
    1. GLOW PLUG 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6
    2. ACTIVATION ELECTRIC FAN
    3. EGR DEACTIVATION

I immediately contacted Auto Bristol ltd. I spoke to Paul and email them of my finding. They said they will not be able to give me any answer until tomorrow midday.

I'm not optimistic and already prepare myself to take the legal action against them to recover any cost.

It seems like you have gone down this road with them recently and won. Do you have any kind advice to guide and help me peruse the Dodgy Auto Bristol?

    Thank you in advance

Good luck VWCharlie. I am sure with your meerkat mother tongue you will be back tomorrow to heap praise. I just get a feeling.
  • Stay away from auto bristol ltd!!!!!!!!!!!

Dodgy & shady all the way,

you are better of buying a bycicle!!!!
  • Do Not Buy a Car let alone a Bike from Auto-Bristol. They are absolute scum bag con artists - just don't do it, you will regret it so badly.

    YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED
  • I have also had a very poor experience of buying a car from Auto Bristol. I purchased a car in May 2014 with a 3 month warranty and now I have a court date in December.

After a month the gearbox failed on the vehicle. I contacted Auto Bristol who advised me the vehicle is not covered under warranty nor The Sales of Goods Act and that they were not willing to spend any money fixing the car.

I started the small claims court process to initially claim for the money to fix the car however now they have fixed the car but I am out of pocket for spending money on car insurance, vehicle transportation, and having to catch the train a train and then cycle to work. I am now looking to claim consequential losses. Has anyone had any experience of this?

I would like to present to the judge as many other instances of Auto Bristol's reluctance to honour warranties as well as instances in which a car has been returned for repair and the fault is either hidden or resurfaces shortly afterwards.

I do not feel comfortable selling this car to someone knowing that the possibility that it has not been fixed properly exists.

You can't base a case on other people's experiences as that is heresay. You've had a new gearbox so consider the car in better shape as it wasn't sold to you as being with a new gearbox

I appreciate your annoyance. I only buy new cars because there is always a reason someone gets rid of a car
  • I recently put down a deposit on a 2001 vw pool auto bristol had for sale and after reading these posts I've become very cautious about the company.

I will be arranging another view of the vehicle and have a word with one who is selling the vehicle. I don't really want to abandon the car as it is perfect for my needs but I will still act upon the reviews I have read.

I have to say, it's shocking I could not find one good review about them.
