This is the one refered to:-

    http://www.ukheatlogs.co.uk/

Aldi had them on sale last year as a individual packs.
I found they expanded quite badly but, if left alone, burned for 40 minutes or so.
If you touch em they fall apart.

Hotties is another brand i've tried they cost more but last a lot longer (circa 2 hours) and they are very solid.

If you work out the length of time they last v's initial outlay they work out about equal in cost.

In reality neither is cheap, smokeless fuel is cheaper but dirtier, in terms of what lasts / price point (currently).

I use a combination of heat logs, smokeless and wood depending on the time of year and if i want the fire to stay in overnight or not.

We're in the process of deciding on a stove and the salesman in our local showroom suggested the Fireline FP5W (5kW as the model number indicates). It has a wide profile and is less deep than most stoves, so that there's a nice big window and it will fit longer logs. We like the look of it, but haven't heard of this brand before - it is UK designed and manufactured - so would really appreciate it if anybody has experience of Fireline?

Don't know the brand but they belong to charlton and jenrick which is uk based.
Doesn't mean the sove is made here mind :)

Never seen one so outside that i can't comment.
I assume W means wide as opposed to S is standard (per the above post?)

Hunter make a similar stove @5kw which is wide single door or smaller double door (herald), they also make the kestrel which, again, i've never seen.

I have a stovax so no direct experience of a hunter but i've seen a herald in use and i liked it. The problem with a wide single door stove is how far the door swings open, which is why didn't go for it.
A wide heavy door also puts a lot of pressure on the hinges which might be a concern down the line.

Sorry i couldn't really help more.

    Thanks for the comments!

We're almost ready to make a decision, but are now wavering between the Fireline in black (with a stone hearth) or a Carron 5kW in cream enamel (with a slate hearth). Didn't want both stove and hearth to be black because we feel it will overwhelm the look of the room - also, the fitter pointed out that the stone hearth might end up looking quite dirty really quickly.

I've read the Whatstove reviews, but still feeling a bit stuck on which to choose :(

I have a black stove on a stone hearth, IMO looks brilliant. My brother has a cream chesney stove and it's a mess after less than 2 years, Definitely avoid a cream stove!

  • we got our stove from wantastove.co.uk they were the cheapest around, and delivered iot really quickly, we purchased a hunter slimline 5 which we had installed by a local guy, we looked at the burley hollywell which has excellent reviews, they do them too, but decided on the slimline 5 due to depth restraints and not wanting to change our hearth to get the 300mm front clearance, hetas need this to sign off.

    Lovely stove!

We've gone for the black Fireline with the stone hearth, so we hope it'll turn out looking similar to yours :)
