RIU Lupita isn't on the beach http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=riu+lupita+playacar&um=1&ie=UTF-8&ei=pqEWT-66OIHn-gbun-WkBA&sa=X&oi=mode_link&ct=mode&cd=3&ved=0CFsQ_AUoAg
and is in a bad location
3.5km from the beach via shuttle bus
2km from Playa del Carmen's centre with shops, bars and restaurants located on 5th Avenue
and gets a 'don't bother' from me.
I found it to be a prime location as it takes 10 mins to the shops at 5th Avenue & 15 max to the beach! It's no bother.0 -

I've taken a look at that one. Looks good but not on the beach. I'd really like somewhere with a beach front location so my two teens can go off on their own without any hassle whilst I do my own thin
Why don't you try one of the other Riu's then as the Playacar & the Yukatan are on the beach. I was there in December & there was so much to do. It's not a bad location as you can get a bus or ferry, or book trips with the locals just down the road. Have a look on tripadvisor as all those people can't be wrong
I was in Cuba too in June but there wasn't really that much to do in the form of excursions, & there's nothing to buy really as they don't have anything.0 -
CUBA! Had the holiday of a lifetime

It's great! Good hotel, huge pool, night club for over 16's, ALa carte restaurants, Beach front (sea is warm at night, hot in day), and lots to do in the area (trips booked with rep).

It won't be hot, it'll be very very very hot and very very very sticky.toffeentom wrote: »I know it will be hot.
I was there 10 days ago, January, and we had some very hot and very sticky days, where you had to have the air conditioning on inside.
It would be unbearable unpleasant in July/August.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
Another for Mexico here. I stopped in the Riu Palace but I would not recommend that one for children.
If I go back I will choose the Tequila.
Food is also very good.
I went in November/December 2010 and the weather was fine and not humid but you are going at a humid time. My thermostat hit 40c in the shade on the balcony. Not sure how much of that heat was reflected.0 -
Thanks again - but I know it will be very very hot etc and still prefer that to being very very cold and very very wet. I've been to Greece when it was nearly 100 and Florida in August. I expect to have the air conditioning on iside. that's what it's for. Some like the heat and some don't. I do0

Just drink plenty of slushy margarita or pina colada. Yummy.0 -
We went to Mexico last year, late July/early August. We stayed at the Marina El Cid which is located in a small village called Puerto Morelos, about 20 mins from Cancun Airport.
The beach was good, pools lovely, entertainment was a bit low key but our then 16 yr old dd made lots of friends so was kept occupied. Food was probably the best at an AI we've eaten and there were excursions available, we did Xel Ha for the day and really enjoyed it.
Service was really good, all coming with a smile and we said we would go back again.
We did have one day of drizzly rain but we stayed in the pool
We also had a couple of evenings where it rained on & off but we had brollies and stayed dry. The weather was very hot so spent a lot of time in the water but we like it quite hot as long as we can cool off in the pool or sea.
We also did Barbados 2 years running in August, again very hot but with short, sharp showers of cooling rain but the cost there would probably be out of your budget but may be worth a look.
Can't comment on Dominican or Cuba as not been.0 -
If your after clear sea's and white beaches try and avoid the atlantic side of the islands as the 'swill' means its not like the pictures. Dont get me wrong theyll be nicer than most european beaches but the clear ones are on the sea side as opposed to the ocean side.0
