Jerky picture when watching via Humax PVR

OK so it looks like option 3 is referring to Multiplex (Mux) 3. So we've got a TV, and this Humax, on the same aerial, and 5USA is jerky on the Humax, and on the same programme at the same time, is fine on the TV's tuner. Strange, and I'm puzzled. Just to help others, does it affect these other channels in Mux 3? Can you also check the coverage checker on Freeview http://www.freeview.co.uk/availability to see if it says anything about your transmitter?0

The jerking whilst viewing is on ITV3 too. On digital uk it says I may need a wideband aerial for this group of programmes but surely if I did it would also jump when viewing on the tv's tuner?0

What exactly is the nature of this 'jerking'.
The video of my humax 9150T occasionally skips in the same manner as a dirty or worn out dvd does in a dvd player. To stop it, I have to reboot the unit. The only channel it definitely affects is bbc 1 but it may have also occurred on other channels. Does this skipping sound like what your humax is doing?0 -

When you say jerky - you mean the picture freezes momentarily or breaks up? Could just be signal strength - your TV may have a built in signal booster which is "on" for Multiplex 3 - this may be why the TV is getting better reception than Humax -certainly my LG set has such a booster -can you actually get a reading on signal strength/quality thru a menu on the Humax???0 -
Yes it momentarily freezes. Just checked the humax menu, channel 29 signal strength 70% and quality keeps changing, going from 40-100%.0

brewerdave, think my toshiba regza LCD tv has a signal booster so this must be the reason for it.0

Sounds like it could be that the Toshiba has a stronger tuner than the Humax then, and the signal is marginal, especially on these channels. To test this, you may notice that the problem on these channels gets worse in the rain? If you can confirm that, you may want to look into the quality or alignment of your aerial.0

How is the Humax connected to the aerial?
Problems such as this often arise from a faulty "fly-lead". Try a different one.
Make sure it's connected:
Aerial --> IN (Humax) OUT --> TV
(Don't use a "splitter".)0 -
Signal quality is more important than strength. If it's going as low as 40%, then clearly an issue with the aerial or cabling, and the Hummy is apparently less tolerant of that than the TV.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Just had an aerial engineer round and it turns out my aerial is pointing to Kimbereley not Waltham! Retuned to the right one now and picture quality is fine. No need for a wideband aerial after all.0
