Poor muscle tone is NOT down to the autism, its down to letting him sit around with the TV babysitting him.
Actually, that's not true.
My daughter is ASD, and had the additional diagnosis of DCD- Developmental Co-ordination Disorder, sometimes called Dyspraxia. Most Children with autism has DCD to some extent, as it not only affects fine motor skills but large muscle groups too. Where it is over and above what would be expected with ASD, it's given it's own diagnosis.
The assessment is carried out by an OT and Physiotherapist, and low muscle tone was one of the issues highlighted. Trampolining and horse riding were 2 of the recommendations. Her muscles are just more floppy, and has absolutely nothing to do with being in front of the TV, as she rarely watches it.
Now, she uses it to her advantage in sports where flexibility is important, but not strength.

What an absolute ridiculous thing to say. I have a son with ASD. He loves being physical and goes 3 different clubs (swimming, football, trampolining) every week - he still has Hypotonia - its a co-morbidity to ASD.
