According to HMRC, if a child has a disability, there is an entitlement to increased tax credits.

Your initial post is confusing. If your friend has an autistic son, why would you get extra tax credits or need a computer? ;) It's not relevant, just confusing!

Maybe he finds it difficult to write by hand and finds typing easier?

Either way the post is confusing!
  • You could try the Family Fund - they are a charity that give funding to children with disabilities. Its a long application process the first time round, but if your 'friend' is on a low income she should qualify.

You cant claim carers allowance for LRC, but I think you should get a top-up on your tax credits.

Is this your Girlfriend or partner?

"Your friend" needs to contact Tax Credits and notify them of the award. There will be a premium added to the Child Tax Credits.

"Your friend" can now apply for the Warm Front grant as there is a disabled person living in the house.

My son is autistic. Poor muscle tone is NOT down to the autism, its down to letting him sit around with the TV babysitting him. Our son is out doing all kinds of things. Tonight is "Aspire" run by the local council at the sports centre and is for disabled kids where they play sports and games. On Friday he goes to disabled swimming sessions.

Contact your council disability advisor to see what things they run. Also see if there's an autistic support group in your area - your best port of call to find that out is the forums on the National Autistic Society website.
