  • TBH I think it depends on what you buy as to whether places like C*ostco etc are worth it..... by picking things up from other boards, if you've loads of kids / go a few times a year etc it can be good and I will admit their meat is really good (one here anyway - one of my friends has a card so usually get a couple of times a year).

From the prices people have quoted for things like loo rolls and everyday products, I've found that I'm not spending any more by being careful about where I buy things (eg Home Bar*gains & Farm*foods stock fantastic loo rolls called Nicky which are quilted & soft and are only £3.99 for 18 and 1kg T*ilda Rice for 99p which is over £4 in the supermarkets). HTH
    Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)
    2016 Sell: £125/£250
    £1,000 Emergency Fund Challenge #78 £3.96 / £1,000
    Vet Fund: £410.93 / £1,000
Debt free & determined to stay that way!
  • Sorry if this has already been mentioned-I have skimmed through all the brilliant advice already given. If you work for the police have you checked out the benevolent fund for your area? As a civil servant I know we have a benevolent fund (CSBF) that can help. I think the police may have similar. They may not be able to pay debts, but there could be a grant or assistance you are entitled to. If nothing else, they can give you free advice (Although I doubt it can beat what you get her on MSE!). You've done a SOA which is the scariest part-see if they can help.
Stick with it-as you can see everyone is rooting for you.

    Hi there,

I agree with the others, mobile phones, landline and shopping bill. Also - have you shopped around for car insurance - that seems a bit high??

Wow you must be on a great mortgage rate, we were interest only (until the mortgage company wouldn't let us anymore) on £240k so a bit higher than yours but it was over £950 pm!!!

What sort of meals do you have? Do you buy brands, ready made food etc?

(edited to add: sorry I've just seen lots of other pages to this, I only saw the first couple - my advice seems very irrevelent now I've found everyone else's. Good luck with your journey to be debt free! :D)

Sorry for all these questions, but say we had some money gifted but only enough to make a settlement payment to some of our cc, is that excepted or would we have to offer it to all cc? Thanks again.
  • I've heard sometimes on dmp that companies can get funny if you offer full an final settlements to other companies when your in dmp with them all, but wait for clarification from someone else as I'm not 100%. Is this the avenue you are taking? X

It maybe possible to borrow money from a family member but I want to try to pay a quarter of the cc ourselves but may take the edge off and the stres which I think will help. It's only another avenue I'm exploring.
  • Have you actually defaulted on any of your credit cards yet? Generally they only start to agree F&F settlements once you have defaulted.

No defaults, I hope that never happens. Thank you it may still be an option.
