is mechanic trying it on?

Its in their hands and they&you should expect a new pump (even a second hand pump should come with some sort of warranty if fitted by a decent garage)to last within a certain time and milage limit. Only you know the make of the Commercial vehicle have you checked the price and type > £600 seems expensive for a standard type Ford/volvo etc. They are trying it on big time with you.
And bill thm for the time lost while your off the road too
a new/recon mechanical diesel pump can be costly, give bosch a ring and find out for one for a volvo 2.0D youll pay close to £1200!
ford tranny ones tend to go out at about £5-600 new/recon by repitable company, or original pump recon at about 250-300.0 -
paid for a fuel pump to be fitted on a commercial vehicle labour £400 ish part £200ish, four months later it broke so i complained to garage they said they had put a second hand one on to keep cost down (which i didnt know about). i explained because of the labour cost i would of preferred to pay for a new part with a warrant and hoped for no future problems with it.
they put a brand new pump on £600 ish and labour £400ish which they knocked £100 off as a good will gesture as i wasnt very happy
four months on the valve on the pump has broke and needs repairing the mechanic says the pump will be repaired free of of charge as covered by warranty but i must pay the labour to take it off and put new one back on another £400ish in labour
i asked if the supplier should pay this as it was a faulty pump and its under warranty mechanic says no and wont even tell me who the supplier is (im thinking did a new pump actually go on the vehicle last time, somthing not right and mechanic not telling me everything)
any help please i will pay if i have to but seems very unfair to me i would of thought supplier was liable for some of the bill?
I'm by no means an expert but it sounds like they've taken you for a ride. :undecided
I had a brand new fuel pump for a Focus and it was a lot cheaper than the £200 you paid for a 2nd hand one. Now, I don't know the difference in fuel pumps but I'm amazed to read your brand new one was £600.
I'd phone the manufacturer of your vehicle and ask them how much a fuel pump costs to buy direct from them. You'll then be able to see if you're being stitched up.0 -
its a 7.5t truck ford iveco i will phone up anothe garage tomorrow for a price0

Yeah it is. Wow, that's some difference. :eek:0 -
Hi,
Couple of assumptions here: It's not a new Iveco? it's a four cylider, probably a 75E, maybe Eurocargo? It was not the injection pump but the lift pump that failed? Initially faulted for turn over but not firing or cut out? Checked pressure and nothing going into injector pump.
If the garage told you they were fitting a NEW pump then they are in the brown and sticky as you assumed you paid for a new one. If they told you it was a secondhand one, it is pot luck. When the second one failed, if they then fitted a NEW new one ( you get my drift ? ) which subsequently failed then the warranty is between the supplier and the garage. Normally the supplier would want to carry out their own diagnosis in situ, which is designed to keep your truck VOR'd so you pay for a new one. The garage SHOULD replace the pump FOC ( Not a 10 hour job unless it was injection pump but they are £1500 recon ) then take up the warranty claim with the supplier who would send it back to manufacturer subject to a parts claim and goodwil claim for labour. If the garage want to keep your business, then they would swallow the labour, if not then your argguement is that as they supplied and fitted the pump it is up to them to get the labour back from their supplier ( who will not pay it! ). Best thing is to either get it done elsewhere, as the garage have had enough opportunity to rectify the situation, and then use court action to make them pay. Tricky as you will need to pay the second garage for the proper job. Or the underhanded ( Treat as you would be treat ) way is to be nice, get the job done, GET YOUR TRUCK BACK ON THE ROAD, then tell the first garage to shove the bill and if they want to make something of it, ( provided you have the supporting evidence ) threaten them with legal / trading standards action. I also assume the guys fitters are IMI / SOE / IRTEC qualified and appear on the relevant technicians register?0 -
cuckoo i had no idea a second hand pump had been fitted the first time until had 2nd problem with it (mechanic has a few srap vehicles in yard so reckon he took one off that and thought he could make a few quid)
