is mechanic trying it on?
paid for a fuel pump to be fitted on a commercial vehicle labour £400 ish part £200ish, four months later it broke so i complained to garage they said they had put a second hand one on to keep cost down (which i didnt know about). i explained because of the labour cost i would of preferred to pay for a new part with a warrant and hoped for no future problems with it.
they put a brand new pump on £600 ish and labour £400ish which they knocked £100 off as a good will gesture as i wasnt very happy
four months on the valve on the pump has broke and needs repairing the mechanic says the pump will be repaired free of of charge as covered by warranty but i must pay the labour to take it off and put new one back on another £400ish in labour
i asked if the supplier should pay this as it was a faulty pump and its under warranty mechanic says no and wont even tell me who the supplier is (im thinking did a new pump actually go on the vehicle last time, somthing not right and mechanic not telling me everything)
any help please i will pay if i have to but seems very unfair to me i would of thought supplier was liable for some of the bill?

Why was it replaced in the first place?“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

OK.
you purchased a pump through a garage, the pump should have came from a supplier via motor factors etc, merlin diesel, fuel parts, bosch etc all who take labour claims, its reasonable to say this fault shouldnt cost you anything.
had you purchased a pump then had the garage to fit this labour would be your expense, but the security of purchasing through a garage is so if this situ does ever occur your not out of pocket again by paying twice or even three times over.
had they fitted it incorrectly or found to have damaged it, they would be liable for all costs, not to be out of pocket trying to damage limitation this by charging you the labour.
i would stand my ground and say i purchased through you, i paid you labour to fit it, its faulty you claim the labour back from the supplier who ever they are not me pay it upfront.0 -
I think he's trying it on, yes. It's under warranty so I don't see why you should pay yet again.
They can claim any labour costs back from the supplier if they want to but thats not really your concern.
Stand your ground and insist they replace it with a brand new oneYou have been reading.....another magnificent post by garethgas :beer:0 -
Also ask to see the old one!
alternatively, it's a new part you have a reciept for. Can you take it to another garage and have them claim the costs back as you clearly don't trust the first lot.
I'd find out who is likely to have supplied the part based on the make/model and call a few up too just to check your standing.
5t.What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -
They supplied and fitted it. It went wrong. They can supply and fit a replacement part at no extra cost to you.0

If I'm going to use a garage, I buy my own parts and then book it in. Let the garage do their job, if they need any bits I've missed (seals etc) they're authorised to deal with that but the main parts I have the receipts for. Add a receipt from the garage for the work and you've got both in a corner if something goes wrong either workmanship or the part.
Granted you'll have to pay workmanship if the part is at fault but at least you know it'll be another new part and not a trick by the garage. Too many 'bodge it and profit' type garages exist out here for my liking.0 -
hes saying the part broke "its just one of them things and i just need to take it on the chin" i think not mr mechanic was going to argue this all the way but wanted to check i wasnt in the wrong on here first , thanks for the replies im going to tell him to claim off the supplier or best of luck in taking me to court for the bill and his account will be susspended until its resolved including any other due payments and future work will be taken eleswhere,0

Expect the bailiffs then.....0

has to go to court and then not pay the CCJ before it got to that phase.Notmyrealname wrote: »Expect the bailiffs then.....
OP is well within his rights to not pay for this, its a clear warranty claim, if a garage put a new pump in and it broke, 4 months down the line and in mileage limitation of the warranty, telling the OP it broke just one of those things cough up is not good enough, i'd tell him straight away good job you can claim of the waranty then isnt it because i'm not paying no more labour charges as the part is under warranty unless you know something i dont and know the warranty wont pay out due to a mistake you may have made, either case i'm not paying labour, either you broke it or its faulty claim off the warranty thats what their there for thats why i bought a new one through a garage.
you cannot refuse to pay him for any other account works he or you have done for eachother, thats a separate contract. you can ensure he paid you up then suspend his account if you wish.0 -
Its in their hands and they&you should expect a new pump (even a second hand pump should come with some sort of warranty if fitted by a decent garage)to last within a certain time and milage limit. Only you know the make of the Commercial vehicle have you checked the price and type > £600 seems expensive for a standard type Ford/volvo etc. They are trying it on big time with you.
And bill thm for the time lost while your off the road too:cool: hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world :cool:0
