Well this is my second and I've never gone near an antenatal class in my life. Ignorance is bliss to me aswell and it doesn't seem to have done my son much harm. I also didn't look round the ward. Figured they wouldn't change it if I didn't like it so didn't see the point. I like to fly by he seat of my very big maternity pants!!

Just a quick post while I have some time...

Baby wipes - I was catherterised so couldn't get out of bed very easily onmy own and noone offered to take me to the shower so these are useful for cleaning yourself down afterwards if you end up a bit less mobile than you thought afterwards.

Bottled water - the hospital wards are so hot you can feel yourself evapourating. I had my mum bring in some bottled water when she could as again if you're slightly less mobile than you expect its hard to keep going and refilling your water jug.

Don't let your partner take the snacks home - hospital food is dubious and stuck to a schedule so its handy to have some options when hunger strikes late at night.

Birth Partners - If you have more than one then make sure you check the visitor hours as in my hospital the dad could stay 10-10pm but my mum was confined to 3-4 and 6.30-7.30. Whilst you're in labour they can stay - seems a bit harsh that after all that they get chucked out once you're back on the ward.

Can't think of much else at the minute as my brain is still very much scrambled....(tried putting orange peel in the kettle instead of the bin the other day).

Heartburn - if it's like mine it disappears pretty much immediately....I had it from 12 wks onwards....might be an old wives tale but my boy did have lots of hair...

Thanks for the good wishes all. I had a prearraged midwife/obsetrician appt this morning so again they checked me out, his heartbeat etc and he sounded very happy. Was persuaded by my sister to take the rest of the day off just to ensure no whiplash etc and so called work and they were like noooo stay away get well and take tomorrow off if you need it so feel better about that now as felt cheeky for taking rest of day off for 'nothing' - itd mega busy at my work at the mo.

Enjoying a bit of sun at the mo... hope its like this when i finish up for mat leave on May 11th!

Glad everything is ok. We shall be starting maternity leave on the same day :) Only 6 weeks and 2 days left  Although with bank holidays, couple days annual leave and midwife/physio appointments, I only have 25 and a half days in the office to go

Mini bottles, MSE option - I bought a packet of empties in Primark for £1, three travel sized bottles which I've filled with a bit of shampoo and shower gel and three little pots, I've decanted a few squirts of moisturiser, foundation (always been a full face of slap kinda girl!) and lip balm into them. Also picked up a travel set in poundland with toothbrush and mini toothpaste for freshening up! My hospital bag is quite large but I'd rather have too much, DH has no idea that there are cereal bars, fruit and nut and lucozade in there or they'd have disappeared already!

Hope Lovecrafting is doing OK x

I have pasted your post onto my 'maternity leave things to do list' - thanks for the tip :)

Edited to add - what a gorgeous little man Seren! xxx

Saw the mw today and had a sweep. Its not as bad as I was expecting altho she did say my cervix is dried out and sealed up tight so I wont be seeing baby anytime soon :(. For those of you worried about having a sweep I'd say its not so much painful as really uncomfortable. Probably TMI but if you've ever had a partner who was a little rough or overzealous when doing the deed and hits the back of your foof well thats what it feels like; kinda hurts but not unbearably painful.
What was painful however is the mw taking 20 mins digging deeply around my belly looking for baby heartbeat, when she finally called in another mw she found it in like 2 seconds and she only lightly touched me with the doppler. I can barely walk because of the ache now. GRRRR.

Hey triangle - we can count down together! I only have 2 public hols and 2 maternity appts left so thats 29 days left of actual work for me!

Thanks for that safesound. I'm one of those what is unsure whether I would want a sweep or not.
Poor you being manhandled for 20 mins while they found the heartbeat. Hope the discomfort eases soon.
Are you booked in for induction now?

OK - so for todays TMI question...

Was getting really really strong shooting pains up my fanjo last night - just short and sharp but enough to make me go owwwww in the night.

Ideas? (I'm 32 weeks and not back at the midwife till next week - and I know she's fully booked this week... cos was meant to be in this week but couldn't fit... so no chance of seeing her to ask her about it sooner).
