Just some ramblings whilst am awake with LO
Boldies- did Dtd the day before Saturday pains/show started so worth ago!
Vast quantities of Cadbury whole nut chocolate was consumed in the days leading up to labour, I definitely was eating more trying to build up energy ?!
Wished we had taken more bottled water/squash, real food like fruit, ready to eat stuff for hubby and i for hospital afterbirth stay.
Partners were not allowed to stay after 9pm at my hospital but the second night made a plea and as was in single ensuite plus dif labour he was allowed (Was sooooo relieved as was desperate through lack of sleep) worth asking they may have discretion.
Take a pen and notepad. Your brain literally dies you need to write things down !! Well I should have done. Also v frustrating when you cant fill in your hospital food preference for the next day !!
We had LO,s 72 hour check done by Gp to avoid potential 3 rd night in hospital.
I stupidly did not absolutely pay attention to whether LO had peed in nappy, keep note of this and movements after birth. It's dif to tell if they have weed because nappies so absorbable, this was also a factor in delay leaving hosp as well as paediatriction not having time to do 72 hour check etc
Taking extra pillow was worth it. It was used in labour and for bf etc and for me as they only had 2!!
Be prepared for first night home hell/screaming!! We are still learning!!
We did resort to 10ml of ready made aptamil in sterilised bottle lid as just could not get LO to latch. Not what we should do but it was an emergency. Best thing is to express some milk but did not know/remember what to do so worth reading up still hit and miss.

Well done Ro, sounds like you did really well :) Forceps sounds a bit ouch  , but worth it in the end!

I'm up at this ungodly hour as my back is killing me and haven't been able to sleep for the last hour or so. Was keeping DH awake so figured I might as well get up. I had a new sleeping position which did wonders for a few days, but has gradually got worse again :(

Nora. Try this thread for all baby clubs and vouchers. :)

I'm hoping for a water birth this time, but it depends if that room is available at the time you go in at our hospital. No pre booking allowed.
So not getting my hopes up.

£180 for a travel system sounds good. What brand is it?

And welcome to the thread x

Thanks for all the info, will get working on all those vouchers over the next week or so! The travel system is Hauck, German brand. £360 down to £180. We went in store last weekend to have a look, it's very cute and quite light, which is handy considering the amount of stairs we have in our house. You have to climb about 10 steps to get to the front door and then another 8 to get to the kitchen, followed by another 14 to the bedrooms!

    Hi folks,

Can I join in please? My first baby is due 2nd June. So I am 21 weeks pregnant today. I have a few questions that you might be able to help me with:

How often do the supermarkets have baby events? I see Mr T and Mr A have baby events at the moment and I'm wondering if they will have another one before mid - May. Buying nappies and stuff now just feels a bit too eager.

im not sure how often they are but there is always some offer or another on with nappies and wipes etc. remember if you are buying all your nappies before baby is here not to get all the same brand, some babies dont like huggies etc

On the other hand, a large baby store near us has a great deal on a travel system, including car seat for about £180 - should we get this now while it's on sale or are there always sales in some shop or another?
if this is the ram you have decided you want then i would be snapping it up at 180 quid, altho is it ossible the sale will be on for a few more weeks? also take a look at kidicare etc they usually have good deals on.

Is there a list of all the baby clubs you can sign up to in order to get freebies?

Has anybody tried re-usable nappies? On a scale of one to ten, how much hard work are they?

depends on your lifestyle i think, i dont use re useables simply because i dont like the idea of washing nappies when i already have washing to do for 5 other people as it is, the washer is never free

Has anybody had a waterbirth? Would you recommend it? My hospital has 2 delivery suites (out of 16) with birthing pools and I'm wondering how likely it is to be able to get one of them if I requested one.
cant help you there, i have never had one

Re baby furniture, my husband is keen to spend a lot of money (about £600-700) on decent furniture, including cot bed, wardrobes, chest of drawers, as we plan on having more than one (or two) babies. Is this a waste of money? Do babies/toddlers inevitably end up ruining everything with permanent markers/sharp pencils/anything they can get their hands on or is it possible that the furniture will still be decent in 4-5 years time?

again, this is personal choice, for me personally, i use little plastic draws etc until baby is in there own room because of space, altho 700 pounds does seem alot to be spending, but as you say you will be using it for more than one baby, (remember after this baby you need to bin the cot matress and moses basket matress) yes toddlers destroy everything but only if you let them

Sorry - alot of questions, but I'm an innocent newbie!

    Thanks,

    Nora B xxx

    Hello everyone,
just popping over from the 12-24 weeks thread.

I know this is terribly lazy of me but does anyone have a list of essential buys for newborns - things to have before baby arrives plus things to use within the first 6 months after birth?

I've tried going through the vast amount of baby websites and booklets I've been given and writing it all out but everywhere seems to plug something different and I'm getting bogged down with it all.

I know I have a while yet (was 20 weeks on Friday) and we're not planning on buying anything until after the next scan at the earliest (30th - want it now :p) but it'd be good to have a list so I can start looking and costing things.

Any links to a comprehensive list or if you have one of your own you don't mind sharing I can PM my email address.

Hope everyone's well and has a good weekend.
  • welcome to the thread MrsManda,

basicly baby needs something to wear, something on his/her bum and something to sleep/sit in.
you need a carseat to bring baby home in. heres a copy of my list (its ever growing tho the more i see cute stuff)

    carseat
    cot
moses basket (you could use the pram if space is an issue)
    pram

    bottles
    steriliser
    teats
    formula if using
    steriliser tablets

    vests
    babygrows
    cardigans
    hats
    socks
outside outfits (if using, usually i keep baby in babygrows for a few weeks)

    blankets
    sheets
    nappies
    wipes
    nappy bags (dont forget these)
    baby shampoo etc

thats basicly the essential list everything else is optional and may make life easier, ie a baby bouncer etc
  • Hi all

Hope all bumps are doing good :)

Got an email this morning saying mothercare are having another expectant parents event. Last time goodie bag had free hats and scratch mits so worth popping along. List of all locations http://www.mothercarebabyandmeclub.com/store.aspx

33+5 here today. Was a bit concerned over reduced movements but then last night baby girl must have been doing a Mexican wave so feeling reassured now. Lazy day today, sending DH out to do all the jobs on my list as i just can't be bothered :) That's very unlike me but i figure i have to slow down at some time :)

Thanks lovecrafting, that's really useful :)
I just realised that I had asked the question before on the 12-24 week thread (doh!) and was given this link:
