Emmylou - I don't really know who is going to be with me at the birth. My mum has offered but she can be a bit of a nightmare so not sure that's a good idea. I'm quite happy to do it alone but my dad is very against the idea and thinks I should have someone with me. Thr midwife keeps asking me aswell and I just haven't a clue what to do. Do you think it is a bad idea to go it alone?DS1 born June 2000

Labour and sleep vibes to those who need them!
Hubby holding baby hence mammoth posts for a minut or two
Couple of things
Argos hot pink (just don't look at the colour) mini fridge £22 very useful for us upstairs
Multiway plug socket extention is vital for us (we have clock, lamp, landline, mobiles, laptop, hairdry er, breast pump, room monitor and Hoover if we are feeling liberal...)0 -

I dont think it`s a bad idea, however, its prob not the best if that makes sense?? How would u cope if something happened (not meaning to sound like it is going to!) and u needed someone there for support? Obviously I dont know u, and how u`d be in a stressful situation? Personally i`d have ur mum there, u never know, she could be totally different when she needs to be, and also might turn out to be the best thing having her there! U could ask her to be at the hosp, maybe in the waiting room, and tell her u`ll call her when u need her? Failing that, do u have any good friends that would step up? I`m panicking as DH is often ill, and with 3 other kids, to start with i was thinking i`d rather him be at home with them. But i dont really want to be giving birth on my own. I`m sure i`d be fine, its just not something i`d want to go thru by myself! You might feel u want someone to be able to talk things thru wth afterwards, and the nest person for that would be ur birth partner! Sorry if thats all rambles lol, just think carefully b4 u decide to go it alone, u dont have to be wonder womanu`ll prob be greatful for ur mum being there once u`ve given birth xxx

Thanks emmylou. You make a lot of sense. I need someone who will look after my son and my dad is pencilled in for that. I have lots of other friends but just don't know if I would feel comfortable being in that situation with them. My next choice is my sister in law but she is away a week either side of my due date so I know I can't rely on that. I think I may have to make a number of plans and just go along with what feels best at the time. Thanks for your advice xxDS1 born June 2000
