Little tip, for those stocking up on nappies/wipes try and get a variety of different brands as Huggies size 1's swamp my 7lb 13oz boy. They are seriously massive. Pampers fit brilliantly. Same with huggies wipes, no good for poopy nappies, i find them flimsy and have put my finger through a few, much prefer johnsons!

  • Hi Everyone,

Well here goes a long one – sorry!!

Went to Diabetes clinic this morning, which I thought was just going to be a chat to see what the plan was going to be moving forward and ended up with a full time table of appointments and a scan!!

I got there for 10, and went straight in to see a Diabetes consultant – he gave me a prescription for Metformin tablets and epi pens and insulin. He explained that I would need to take it to my doctors and pick it up in a couple of days, and to start taking the tablets straight away, but I would have another appointment next week on Monday to go through instructions etc for the injections. I feel a bit better about the injections now as they don’t look that bad after all.

Then I went for a scan to see how big she is, now bearing in mind that I am 29 weeks today, baby should be weighing about 2lb 8oz, my scan today has shown she weighs 3lb 9oz at the moment and is measuring in the 97th % for everything else, tummy, legs and head. I did take the opportunity to just ask the sonographer to confirm she is a girl and she is lol.

Came out of the scan and went in to see my normal consultant, who explained all the risks, and was generally very good about everything, and that is when he dropped the bomb shell that they wouldn’t be letting me go past 38 weeks, but he thought 36 weeks was a better option, so it looks like I am going to queue jump and my due date will now be 26th March, a whole 4 weeks before I was planning. So eeeek, I now have 7 weeks left instead of 11. He asked me if I would prefer a C Section or induction and I nearly bit his hand off for the induction, so looks like that will be the way we go.

I have to go back tomorrow for Diabetes clinic again to learn a bit more about the process, and also to be taught how to do the finger !!!!! test so I can measure my glucose levels each day.

I have to go back next Monday to see my consultant so he can look at my sugar levels for the last week and see what intervals the scans need to be, fortnightly or monthly.

I have to go back in 4 weeks to see the diabetes consultant so he can assess my overall process etc.

I feel so much better about it all, as I feel more prepared to deal with it, but the due date thing is the biggest shock. I was planning on finishing work on March 23rd, 3 days before my new due date, but now think I need to finish earlier as I need some time at home to get ready before she comes, so potentially, rather than having 7 weeks left at work, I might have 3 or 4 – it’s all so weird!!! x x

  • wow snoopy, glad you feel better about everything. I bet you are shocked, a whole month sooner, you best get your head around it a bit quicker now lol as you don't have long to prepare.

    Good luck with the injections.

Snoopy my boy was estimated 3lb 6oz at my 29 week appointment and even in labour i was told he was a big boy and he ended up being bang on average, so dont stress too much about the weight, i dont think theyre always right xx

Luckily becuase I have a little OCD, I am completely ready now apart from packing my hospital bags and having the nursery big furniture, that is coming on the 24th of this month.

It is just all really weird thinking when I woke up this morning, "Oh I am 29 weeks today - 11 to go" to leaving the hospital with only 7 weeks to go almost guaranteed!!! lol. It will all be ok though! x

I can only hope - I really, really want to do it by myself without having to have a C-Section, so smaller would be better, and if I can change my diet completely to what they want, and take all the medication I am supposed to, then that will help too! x x

  • Oh Snoopy what a day you have had. I've just had my growth scan as they were worried my baby was a giant. I am 29+6 today and mine is above the 90th centile on everything and thr BPD is even bigger. The estimated weight is 3.91lb. I am so scared cos they are talking about bringing me forward and a C section aswell and I really didn't want that. But obviously I will do what is best it's just a bit of a shock. Got another appt on Thursday with the consultant and he says we will make a plan of action then.
Do you have any more scans booked Snoopy?
