Should I Buy a Dyson?

Are they worth it? I have no problem spending however much for one, however, for that amount of money, i want it to actually work. I have quite a thick pile carpet, and i've so far used a cheapo asda vacuum cleaner, an Elctrolux and a henry. None of them were all that good at getting into the pile, but Henry is probably the best of a bad bunch. On the plus side, my OH has said if we get a Dyson, he'll hoover EVERY DAY! Bonus! I'm thinking of a Dyson ball. Anyone got one, and are they any good?!?!

My MIL has a dyson ball and I didn't like it at all - quite flimsy feeling, and strangely heavy to use because you have to control it with your wrist. I'd get a decent upright cleaner for a thick pile carpet - at the moment we've got a Panasonic MC UG302 which is nice to use and does a good job considering how cheap it is, but before that I had a dyson DC01, and I did like the weight of that, although my OH hated the noise it made.0

I don't like the look of the ball to be honest. I'd prefer a normal shape. And they're a bit cheaper! If I bought a vacuum from Argos (for example) and it didn't pick up, can i used this as a reason to return it, and get a different one? I guess it could be classed as not being fit for purpose, but can you do such a thing!?0

I have a dc24 which I am delighted with and is very easy to move about.
Hope that helps.0 -
You only have to look at it to know that in a few months all those plastic bits are going to break and drop off.You scullion! You rampallian! You fustilarian! I’ll tickle your catastrophe (Henry IV part 2)0

You could buy British and go for a Henry - used by cleaners up and down the land!0

The Dyson is very strong. Superb build quality. The lifespan of the machine is greatly extended however because spare parts can be purchased and fitted very easily. Really it's the only hoover you'd ever need to buy if it's just for a domestic situation. We gave ours away (still going strong) after ten years use because we moved to wooden floors and only need a little baby hoover now but the Dyson was the dog's bits when we had carpet.0

I worked for many years in a small electrical repair company and I can honestly say that 80% of the cleaners brough in for repair
were dysons of all shapes and sizes.
Henry every time, cleaners, builders use them all the time, great little work horse.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
i also have a dyson and not the 1st, best vacum i have had when working correctly, filters have to be kept clean etc to keep the suction.
only last week the roller bar stopped working, i rang dyson helpline(freephone number) for advice they were very helpful and told me it was still within the 5 year guarantee so sent me out a new rollerbar free of charge.0
