Continental/United Transatlantic - no meals?

Morning everyone :j

I booked a multi-city flight package for me and my fianc!e last year to go to America in May 2012 for our honeymoon.

I'm just double checking things like flight times so that we can pre-book some activities and tours over there.

However, on the itinerary for the two long flights (Heathrow to Chicago and San Fran to Heathrow) it says 'Meal: None'.

For anyone who's flown with them before, is that correct? No meal/food on two flights of 8 hours and 11 hours?!

I've tried to phone customer services but have been on hold for far too long :rotfl:.

If that's the case, I might have to take a few snacks :o

Thanks

I think that comment may be where they would reflect any special meal requirements eg VGML etc, if you have not selected a vegetarian meal or another special sort then your meal request will be 'none' and you will get the standard meal offering

If you go onto the Continental website as it you were booking the flights it will show the meal offered
    eg
    Flight: CO949
    Operated by United Airlines.
    Aircraft: Boeing 767-300
    Fare Class: Economy (B)
    Meal: Lunch
    No Special Meal Offered.

United did try a no meal service on late evening flights from USA-LHR, but there was too much of an outcry.

Not the question that you asked, but please be aware that flight times can change, so don't book any activities at times too close to your arrival and departure.

You are correct -in common with all US carriers UACO charge for food on DOMESTIC flights -however the OP was asking about transatlantic flights.

Caz3121 is correct. Rather than trying to ring CO just look on their website.

On the outbound sector you will get a hot main meal and a snack about 90 mins before landing. On the return sector you will probably have dinner and a light breakfast prior to arrival.

We tend to buy Meal Deals from Boots before boarding. The food is far superior to what is served on the flight, you get a much better choice and you can decide when you want to eat it rather than wait hours for the trolley to turn up (with chicken as the only option).

Thanks very much for the confirmation. It didn't show lunch/dinner/breakfast on my booking information (actually with Continental but United flights) as shown in the second post which worried me slightly!

This is what my booking says:

    Flight: CO949
    Operated by United Airlines.
    Aircraft: Boeing 767-300
    Fare Class: Economy (W)
    Meal: None
    No Special Meal Offered.

    and coming back...

    Flight: CO954
    Operated by United Airlines.
    Aircraft: Boeing 777-200ER
    Fare Class: Economy (S)
    Meal: None
    No Special Meal Offered.

That was what had confused me. I didn't think they'd offer nothing.

Edit: I'm not booking any tours on the same day as flights, all in-between as we'll have 10 days over there.

Did you book direct with the airline or through a 3rd party? I agree with Caz3121 that looking at the airline's website you will have a meal and a snack...all I can think is if it was booked with a 3rd party they don't commit to what the meal service will be (totally guessing).
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?
