Help with disability premiums please - SUCCESS!

I was told by DWP that a person only qualifies for disability premiums if they are on a means tested benefit such as income support or ESA.
Those on IB do not qualify.
Although, the link ritchie supplied states this:
receives Disability Living Allowance, Incapacity Benefit paid at the long term rate, Severe Disablement Allowance; or
has an invalid carriage, provided by the social security office; or
is registered blind.
Does this mean you fit ALL the criteria or just some of them?0 -

Interesting question. I also understood that SDA only applies to people on income support or means tested ESA. I am on DLA and IB (long term rate), but have always understood that I don't qualify for disability premiums because I am just over the limit to get means tested benefits.I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0 -

There are, I think, 3 different disability premiums that people can apply for. I think the one I pasted was the disability premium & not Severe disability premium.
Might have to telephone IB department again & point this out.0 -

Scott
Do you mean the claims will stop in April for Severe Disability Allowance or Severe Disability Premium?
The two are different....
SDA is stopping, but the SDP is not from what I can see. Can you link please to one of these warnings, thanks.“How people treat you becomes their karma; how you react becomes yours.”0 -
Just wondering if anyone has managed to work out the correct criteria for disability premiums yet?0

Try this number: 0800 882200 (benefits enquiry line - help and advice for disabled people) mon-fri 08.30 - 18.30, Good Luck - Scott
Hi all, it is a very complex set of criteria, there are other posts on here that people have given much more detailed info on the subject but I would suggest thet ANYONE on mid/high rate care, and ANY means tested benefit should give the contact centre above a call, they were very very helphul and told me of our entitlement without me having a clue about it and was just phoning on the advice of the dircetgov on line benefits checker. Definately worth a call - good luck all, and remember because it is classed as a 'premium' not a stand alone benefit can be backdated to the very start of the award of your dla, in our case it was over 3 years worth!0 -
I did phone the benefit enquiry line & told them my circumstances. The lady just said contact the IB department about it.
So, I telephoned the local IB department & the lady said I wasn't entitled due to being on IB, even tho' I get HRC/LRM.
Seems people get told different things depending who answers the telephone.0 -
Severe Disability Allowance included AA or is this wrong, I always understood that this is the case.0
