Thankyou to all those who gave me input and advice on this issue, Ive found out today that our claim has been approved and we ARE eligible for backdating until the start of our dla award mid 2008! If anyone is on mid/high rate care dla, and a means tested benefit like IS and no-one gets carers allowance for you, then you could be entitled to this premium and an award which backdates to the original award of the quailifying benefit. If you dont bother finding out or claiming by April this year then you will be too late. This could be worth up to £130 per week plus however much you have already missed - PLEASE CHECK IF IN DOUBT! Ive got a pretty good understanding of the requirements now so if I can point anyone in the right direction I will happily try... Best Regards - Scott

why would April THIS year be too late?
btw if another adult lives with you then unless they also get mrc or hrc then you cant get sdp,but well done on getting yours backdated

Hi John, wherever Ive looked for info on Dis Prem on the DirectGov websites they put up e very clear warning that claims for any form of this will be unobtainable by April 2012, and have also spotted that Severe Dis Allowance claims will not be entertained after 31st January THIS YEAR! they are probably relying on the re-naming and re-structuring of these benefits to create a cut off to those who try to persue backdated entitlement after this 'change in law'.... Sorry only answered part of your question - yes I live with my wife who is also on high rate care dla, and no one gets carers for either of us.Which is why we both qualify - regards Scott0

I missed your first post.
How would I know if I already got this or not?
What are the requirements to receive it?
I currently live with my mum who although cares for me, does not get carers allowance as she also works full time. I get mid rate care.0 -
Hi Formaldehyde Perfume - you could well qualify for Disability Premium (as you live with your mum not Severe Dis Prem, unless she has entitlements herself) you dont say if you get any other benefits like income support or esa so cant say for definate - but definately worth a try.
Try this number: 0800 882200 (benefits enquiry line - help and advice for disabled people) mon-fri 08.30 - 18.30, Good Luck - Scott0 -
Thanks Glowgirl - Im no expert in this but it sounds like your aunt may already be getting severe dis premium, if not she should be entitled to it (unless the disability income guarantee is instead of it??) I didnt realise that this part of the benefits system could possibly get more complicated, but youve just proved it can!
If in any doubt please try 0800 882200 and they should be able to point you in the right direction - well done for looking out for your aunt, shes lucky to have you and GOOD LUCK! Regards Scott0 -
glowgirl from what you have read off she is already getting them all.0

Sorry. I get ESA support group. I just had a quick look and I get more than the standard ESA support group rate so I must get something on top of that too but what I get doesnt tally up with any of the premiums.
I have to go to town tomorrow anyway so I will try to get the courage to go in to the job centre and use their phones to ring the DWP and ask what's going on, and for a paper based breakdown of what I get and why. I have a phobia of phones which I can sometimes overcome (if I prepare properly by breathing exercises and nothing else happens in the day to freak me out and get my nerves up) so we'll see.0 -
- I won't ask formaldehyde_perfume / or / scottnsharon their ages and single / couple status - see hereDisclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. Thanks Richie useful link. They ve just sorted me and the wifes out,and first of two large amounts hit bank today, we are middle aged, both on high rate care is and ib, and no one gets carers for us, apparently the enhancement part has been used in their calculations of our claim all along (20ish quid at mo) but not the severe disability premium couples rate, but they are happy to pay the whole amount. Still trying to take it in..
I bet theyve missed loads of people though! Regards Scott0
