Somebody please suggest the best/cheapest way to get a Blackberry Bold 9900

Hi all

Before anybody tells me to go searching the net, believe me I have. I'm bamboozled with all the terms, Jargon and a lot of the phrases. I am not asking people to do the job for me, I am simply looking for suggestions and ideas to how I can get the best deal on this phone. Please read on and you'll see what I mean.

I have been to loads of comparison sights and some deals are a lot cheaper on one site than the exact same deal elsewhere. There are deals with gifts, deals with cashback etc.

I am simply looking for the following and I hope some people can point me in the right direction:

The phone is for my 14 year old son.

He wants a Blackberry Bold 9900 White, but after much searching, these are rare to get hold of and in some cases are more expensive than the Black ones. So, we have settled for a Blackberry Bold 9900 in Black. I estimate he will need 500 minutes, 500MB Data and I guess 300 texts (BBM.... PLEASE READ ON)

Now, I can see lots of deals on the web, but which is best for us? He has specifically stated that he wants BBM Messenger, yet I can't seem to find that option on a lot of sites. The best deal I found was on a site called buymobilephones.net which gives:

600 cross-network mins + Unlimited texts + 500MB BlackBerry Internet Browsing and Services + 1GB BT Openzone Wi-Fi + Vodafone Data Test Drive • 24 months
for £ 31.00 a month

It also states:

9 Months 1/2 Price by redemption info.gif

Effective Cost £25.19 a month

So, what is this redemption? Is it easy? Possible? or a bit of a con?

Also, I know that some people will probably know of vouchers/promotional codes etc. I am also a member of quidco.

So, I was hoping some of you lot would point me in he right direction of saving a few quid, be it by promotional codes, discounts, cashback etc, etc. and hopefully suggest which deals have BBM.

I will gladly accept any suggestions. Thanks in advance all.

People just use them at every opportunity. However, personally I prefer Topcashback to Quidco. No annual fee and more customer oriented.
However, some deals you see on comparison sites are exclusive and are not available via quidco/TCB.

Yes, it's free - as long as you pay for BB Services.
  • A quick flick around shows that you can get the Bold 9900 on the Vodafone Choice 500 Blackberry with the following "500 cross-network mins + Unlimited texts + 500MB BlackBerry Internet Browsing and Services + 1GB BT Openzone Wi-Fi + Vodafone Data Test Drive • 24 months" this would cost £26 a month and you would get two months free line rental by redemption. Giving effective price of £23.83 a month and a lower monthly cost. That was from buymobilephones.net as well.

If you sign up with Top Cashback, and click through from them, you'd get £30 back as well.
  • Sorry to hijack, but my daughter wants a blackberry for her 13th Birthday but this seems an awful lot of money a month (could use that to over pay my morgage!!). Completely not up to paying £20+ a month, are their any pay as you go options that include this bbm? Quite shocked at thought of that a month.

    Thanks

    Which one? Any?

The cheapest BB is £110 on PAYG:

Use it on, say, sim-only £11 tariff :

Chitterchatter offer the following T-mobile SIM-only deals:

100mins, 100 texts, unlimited landline calls and BBM
£11.10 per month, 30-day rolling SIM
(based on £6/month deal plus £5.10 BBM booster)

350 mins, unlimited texts and BBM
£15.10 per month, 30-day rolling SIM
(based on £10/month deal plus £5.10 BBM booster)

These prices are based on monthly recurring cashing back which is paid to you each month (typically around £5 per month) for as long as you retain the contract. No claims to make.

Effectively it will be £16 p.m. in terms of 24 month contract.

Also I recollect someone mentioned BB services free with T-mobile sim-only (directly) for the first 6 months with some cashback available.

Bring your BlackBerry to T-Mobile and get six months free internet and BlackBerry Mail

All you need to do is top up with £10 to activate the SIM and they will apply the package.

You get to choose another free plan for the first month, such as 100 free UK minutes, unlimited texts or 60 minutes of International calls.

Plus you'll still have your tenner to spend. That should tide you over for a while.

    You won't find cheaper.

Blackberry PAYG on T-mobile is only £20 for 6 months

(you can also get the first 6 months free with either a T-mobile Blackberry SIM or a new T-mobile PAYG blackberry handset).

You buy a 6-month "Blackberry booster" from £20 of credit balance.
This can be carefully combined with the £10 top-up reward system where you get either 100 free minutes or unlimited texts when you top up £10. Do that 2 months in a row to get the reward before using the credit to purchase the blackberry access every 6 months.

Make sure you're read all the redeption/cashback threads carefully if you are considering that route. Works well for some.
You may want to also check out threads about accidental running up of large bills - by adults, too, and not just children.
TescoMobile are one of the providers that offer a true capping service (set a max level for a monthly bill)
    You might want to consider:
Blackberry Bold 9990 Black, 5000 texts, 750 mins, BBM (blackberry email and messenger service) and 500MB data for £25.00 per month on a 24 month contract. Fixed monthly bill option available, no cashback redeption necessary.
There is a £50 handset price, but £35 cashback available via quidco.
  • My daughter (shes a budding MSE'r, just like her mum) reckons we can pick one up (a curve or a bold 9300!!??!!) from ebay, as shes been looking. She currently has an orange PAYG phone. Can I buy a phone from ebay, use her SIM and get a top up with orange? (sorry if I'm being a complete thickie) or am I making this harder than it needs to be?

Thanks everyone for advice so far. Really appreciate. XX
