After 12 months the interest drops to 2%, so not much point putting the yearly interest into the account.

Should get all pending interest paid off on account closure, so annual interest needn't be a problem.

This account was withdrawn yesterday
  • I wonder if I'll ever get off the ground with this account!

Sent off cheque for opening account.
    Received passbook and account details.
Registered on-line so i can access 'my accounts' and add money by bank transfer.
Received registration details of that today along with an activation code.
Entered id number then password, next page entered the 2 digits requested of my memorable info.
Wouldn't accept this, tried twice thinking I'd put in wrong info.
Rang monmouthshire, told really helpful lady about problem.

Was told the third attempt would lock me out if wrong info entered but to then ask for new password/memorable info.
They would then send me a new activation key in the post.

    Sure enough got locked out.

    Another day wasted:mad:

However there was no sort code/account no included on any letter I received to send electronic payments to my new account.
The only info I found was in the booklet enclosed in the section on 'Making Payments into your account'

    It says to quote
    *Monmouthshire Building Society
    *Sort code xx-xx-xx
    *Account No. xxxxxxxx
*The full 10 characters of your Monmouthshire savings account number.

not sure about the last 2, do I enter my acc number on the end of theirs?

Any ideas please from someone who's opened one of these.
I'm losing the will to live:(

You enter your account number as the reference. That is in a separate box to the Monmouth BS's account number. http://www.monbs.com/electronic-payments-into-mbs-accounts01006/
  • Many thanks for that Apt.

I seem to be getting overwhelmed lately:eek:
Trying to give some banks etc my money can seem like an uphill struggle at times.

Knocking a full glass of wine over just now hasn't helped:(

I still haven't received anything from them since sending off the cheque and forms of ID they needed. I'm guessing my account has been opened though as the cheque has cleared from my account. It's been just over a week since it was sent, how long did it take for everybody else to hear from them?

The sort code and account number are the same for everyone. The only thing different is your monbs reference number. The same as a credit card. Make sure you double check the reference number before paying else your payment will end up in some void and will have to be traced.

My experience has been good. Paid in using Faster Payments from First Direct (FD had Monmouthshire BS details aleady on their system - just needed to quote ref number). Minor problem accessing my account online for the first time - did not realise that password etc was case sensitive.

Yes, FD annoyed me with that. I automatically clicked "Use my own details" and typed into the details I had, then got a message saying "We already have Monmouthshire BS in our drop down list, you must use that." and blanked all the fields so I had to retype my reference and amount again. Grrr.

I'm fairly sure I've paid in my £12k - sent off the £20 and got my passbook, then used the instructions in the booklet to top it up to £12k. But I'm having no end of trouble registering for My Accounts - it just doesn't seem to like it even when I'm sure I type it in fine. I'm waiting for my third activation code in the post now.

At least they all sound lovely when you ring them up!
