Shoal Enforcement?! Cowboys or a real concern?

Options
hi all,

Newbie here wondering if someone could help.

SO over the xmas period I left my car in my other halfs car park with the appropriate permit. I came back on Friday 13th (Typical) to find a PCN from this company.... Obviously confused I opened it and found that they have given me a ticket for £120 for having an out of date Tax Disc!? My car is taxed as always however being the xmas period I hadn't been home in December to pick it up and display the new one. My question is.. I thought it was the DVLA and the polices responsibility to penalise you for any road tax qualms? Not some random company..? Can they do this? Should i get in contact with them or ignore it? Will they actually be able to obtain my details from the DVLA?

Thanks in advance for any help given... its really appreciated.

    Cowboys.

There is a specific board for parking tickets:

If you look on there, you should find the letter chain, so you now what to expect next.

    In the meantime, ignore.
  • Thanks Sarah,

Apologies for posting in the wrong place.... is there anyway I can move my thread?
  • PPCs cannot issue penalty notices if your VEL (Tax Disc) is out of date. The only authority permitted by law to do that is DVLA. Ignore the ticket.

If the company threatens you in any way, threaten them with the Information Commissioners Office (up to a maximum £500K fine if they obtain your details from DVLA and use them for an illegal purpose) and the police (Attempted Blackmail, Fraud by False Misrepresentation).

If you've sorted out your VEL and you have a current and valid one on your vehicle, relax.

Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there.
