Oh, I should explain about the 'garage' too.
Although I call it that; it's not currently accessible by a car.
An old extension (25 years ago when my parents moved in) blocked off the access.
So it's currently 'just' a useful storage space in a building separate from the main house - and there is no garage as such.

It is a bungalow and the most likely buyers will be older folk.
I have been struck by how many bungalows have been "modernised" with open plan kitchen/living rooms, laminate flooring, wet rooms and all sorts of other current/"fashionable" ideas.
Maybe it's just me, but I can't stand these "modernised" bungalows.

I think that's a very good point, thanks...

I would never take the fireplace out though!
It does work if wanted, and I think is part of the 'period charm' of the house which people seem to like.

As I said in my post, but it seemed to have been ignored, I asked if the fireplace actually served a purpose (i.e. worked) as it seems to have been attached to an internal wall and so it wasn't obvious if a chimney was there. If there wasn't a chimney, and the fire served no purpose apart from decoration, then there seemed little point keeping it.

It's all very well for a certain poster to berate me for my views, but the facts are that the house isn't selling and most people can't see beyond daft things like weird kitchen tiles, decorative fireplaces in the way of patio doors (as it seemed) and black furniture making the rooms look dingy to see the potential of a property. You want viewers to go away talking about how they would change the decor to suit their tastes, not talking about how awful the kitchen tiles were, the black furniture was or how they had to climb over the fireplace to get to the patio, etc.

It is useful to have varied opinions.

I can see how it might look in the photo as if the fireplace is just 'stuck on'. I think the rest of the wall may have been removed in very-long-ago alterations. (It's a 1920s house)

Seems opinion is very much against the bedroom furniture though!

Although very useful, the room would certainly look bigger and lighter without.
    (It's actually dark green faux-onyx.)
One letting agent suggested painting it but I was afraid it would look awful.
Perhaps we do need to take it out, and the headboard.
Then we would need to redecorate that room and re-carpet.

Also I notice that the poster was quick enough to criticise my views but offered no advice herself.

    a) The house is not for sale, it is to let. The conversation is about any work that might needed for sale.

    b) advice was offered by me at posts 9 and 24 as well as the response at 28 which detailed the reasons why I disagreed that your suggestions weren't great. I didn't just disagree for the sake of it.

    And, if

Why not just put your own suggestions in and then leave it at that, you don't need to try and rubbish other people's. The OP can make his own mind up from all of the replies I'm sure. Your opinion is your opinion and mine is mine. You might buy that house as it is and I wouldn't. I explained what would puotentially put me off. I expect that enough people dislike the same things as me then the OP would do something about it. If people startt rubbishing other people's suggestions then some potential posters will be put off and the OP won't be able to see if a consensus of opinion is forming.

Just because you have a different opinion to mine, doesn't mean mine is wrong. It's just different.

I'd only consider it if it cost nothing to move.

People will come and view based on the photographs of a charming house that needs bringing into the 21st century a little more and the person who buys will probably get rid of the bedroom furniture, but the carpet they put down in there will probably match the colour carpet they choose to run through the entire house, iyswim. I don't think people laugh at houses like that. It's clearly been a much loved home for someone.

Could you get the EA to add a few more photos of the other rooms and the garage/storage/garden? I find it off-putting when there aren't pictures of some rooms - makes me wonder whether there's something to hide.

You don't want to put off anyone - the more people who come to look at it, the more chance of a renter/buyer.

It's a discussion board, we are all allowed to discuss things, not just list our own opinions and ignore everyone else. I stated that I disagreed, I wasn't rude to you, I explained exactly why I disagreed which is common courtesy and I have every entitlement to do so. I am not breaking any forum rules.
If putting up cheap tiles in that kitchen, painting it magnolia (when it's already magnolia) and removing the fireplace and some cupboards makes the entire difference between you wanting the house and not, makes you overlook the location, the setting, the layout, the potential and the price, my experience puts you in the minority. Some things are infinitely more important than others and whether this house needs some work isn't really in question.

Did you want me to pick your dummy up for you?
