  • the problem with linux is that your users might not be familiar with it, and not be able to use it.

    I doubt it, this is a Linux based desktop ( http://deviceguru.com/making-ubuntu-look-like-windows-7/ ):

What a thing to say! (edited to remove the sarcasm)
I know the average joe may not have used a desktop before... (Slightly less sarcasm used)
  • Thanks TT, downloaded and verified OK will take it to the club on Friday (good excuse for a couple of Hobgoblins).

Clicked on the link for service tag search and it came up as 1363 TOJ same as on computer.

Do i need to be online when running the disk, or just when i download the drivers.

Did it link you to the Drivers for the machine?
Don't begin the installation without having the Drivers on a USB drive or a disc.
Otherwise you might not be able to connect to the Internet at all, without the Ethernet Driver.

Which of the models in post #23 corresponds to your model?

Ok, I see the problem with the Service Tag. You have used a letter instead of a number. It is 1363T0J.

    You only really need Intel-Driver

    R79733.EXE (4MB)

    under Video

    and

    Intel-Driver

    R54402.EXE (3MB)

    under Network.

    You can also update the BIOS if you wish to risk it, using;

    Dell-BIOS

    R89214.exe (2MB)

    So, you are all set....
  • It was the second dell (small desktop).

    Ethernet driver on usb drive.

Not going to risk Bios as i have read to many horror stories of things going wrong.

Will let you know how it went.

Thanks for your time and knowledge.

What about the Graphics Controller? That and the installation instructions for both if necessary. Microsoft Update should take care of anything else.
  • All went smoothly, forgot to say i did download the Graphics as well.

Now to chat the treasurer up for the Ram.

Once again thanks everyone for the help.
