apparently their son mucked about with a partition program and managed to wipe the restoration partition.

Now just got c&e. All the windows stuff running on c and e empty.

As they now can't find the recovery disc i think i will now just put ubuntu on as the os as it will only be used for surfing the net and printing posters/letters, i have looked and the old but working printer that came with it is supported.

    For the third time...

    Service Tag? Are you there?
  • When i go to the club i will have a look at the service tag and let you know.
  • If you can't find the service tag then install Speccy http://www.filehippo.com/download_speccy and run it. It will be listed in the motherboard section.
  • Hi,
In your first post, you mentioned CCL found something - what is CCL?

    think it might be CCleaner.

You need the Service Tag so that you can download the correct Drivers for the machine. Plus I will know which version of XP is licenced for use on the machine, so as to send you the correct disc. But you can confirm to me whether Home or Professional is written on the Microsoft Certicate of Authenticity sticker.
No trouble for me, especially as it's a good cause.

You might as well stick with XP as it's already licenced and it's just a matter of getting hold of the disc.

How much RAM is in the thing?

That does not appear to be a valid Service Tag. You can use the PC to navigate to this page and choose Automatically detect my Service Tag for me .

That will lead you to the correct Drivers.

The XP Recovery Disc is in your PM Inbox.

the problem with linux is that your users might not be familiar with it, and not be able to use it.

windows can be safe, if you let users login from a basic account and not admin, it wont be possible for them to install malware and stuff. periodically you just log in as admin, delete the basic account and create a new one to flush out the accumulated junk
