Her main competitor is Pendleton and unfortunately for us Meares looks waaaaay stronger at the moment. Plus Pendleton has all but announced her retirement.
However the new news is Chris Hoy in the Keirin. Wow, wow, wow!!!! It's such a shame that in the Olympics you can only have one racer per country, per event.
i wouldn't say meares was particularly unlucky. they both screwed up one heat each by crossing the red line. the crash was pendleton's fault, and in the second heat meares very clearly rode over the red line and obstructed pendleton - her relegation in that heat was consistent with action taken in other heats (it was very similar to the jason kenny relegation in the mens sprint, for instance). pendleton beat her by 1mm in the one clean heat. pendleton deserved to win it in my view.
meares has proved by consistent results that she is better, i just don't think she's a class apart, and pendleton showed that she is still good enough to beat meares even when meares is on top form.
the keirin was brilliant. will be interesting to see whether hoy gets the sprint spot for the olympics.0 -

My favourites are F1, MotoGP and athletics; like but not favourites: track cycling, swimming, football (World Cup/European Cup/Champions League only), American football (blame DH, high scoring games only), rowing, diving, speedway (but only watched live), skiing, bobsleigh. Not interested: tennis, golf. Don't like: cricket.
Cricket is my favourite sport, and i love watching it on the telly or in the ground. Was gutted as didn't get any tickets for either Lords test in the ballot this year. Unamusingly there were hundreds of tickets on viagogo immediately after the ballot was announced, all for at least double face value...
I like rugby and football as well, but only watch england playing really, I am not that interested in club sport of any kind.
Love cycling - road or track. Skiing as well. And I don't mind watching big golf tournaments. F1, although now it's going onto sky I won't get to see it.
Will pretty much watch any sport really. I used to watch kabaddi on channel 4 on saturday mornings, for instance!0 -

That crossed my mind too. It was on after or before Gazzeta (ch4)

Hopefully Pendleton will take some time off and come back fighting.
The keirin was fanstastic. How he did that I don't know. I don't think he knows! Only time will tell on the sprint spot. I have a nagging suspicion it will go to Kenny. My current favourite sport is shouting at the referee during either of my son's rugby matches (luckily the eldest plays on a Saturday, and the youngest a Sunday so I get a rest in between)
I was a decent but volatile Golfer (8 hdcp), but I can't be arsed to play nowadays.
I used to play cricket for my Bank with 10 West Indians (1 employee and 9 of his mates). We were unbeaten for over 2 years, not that I contributed many runs as I always pencilled in at 6 and we never lost more than 2 or 3 wickets very often. I used to keep wicket to these huge guys roaring in off 50 yard run-ups, I was terrified so I dread to think what the batsmen were thinking .........once for a few weeks we had a guy in his 50's who used to play for Trinidad in the side, he bowled leg spin, and even though he always told me what he was going to bowl before the over I rarely got a glove of anything that passed the wicket.'In nature, there are neither rewards nor punishments - there are Consequences.'0 -

Most sport is for playing not wTching imo.
I find watching somethings i love playing really boring. I never 'get' watching the tennis, for example. Very few more enjoyable ways to get exercise or socialise with people who aren't kindred spirits and bottle of wine types, but terminally boring to watch. But when i think about the sporting events i used to enjoy attending they were more abut the social aspect for most people than the sport, unless you were taking part in the sport.0 -

I think that's true of most things in life, to be fair. Or at least it is for me!“I could see that, if not actually disgruntled, he was far from being gruntled.” - P.G. Wodehouse0 -

Played golf years ago and took gliding lessons but too expensive to continue. Once had a job next to a 9-hole golf course and used to fit in a quick round on the way home (or even at lunch). Now in a part of the UK which must have the fewest golf courses.
Watch footie (SPL and internationals) and rugby internationals (and sevens!) but rarely as I don't see much telly.
Sometimes feel like agreeing with Col. Gadaffi that sport should be for doing not for watching.
Cricket, like crossdressing, should be carried out in private.
Lived close to Wimbledon and loathed the disruption due to the tennis, could ban the "sport" if had the power!
Will happily ignore the Olympics as much as possible. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0
