One house my parents had had a vegatable patch that was filled with black currents. Revolting job to pick them and then top and tail, put me off black currents for life. We always had far too many, I don't know why my parents didn't get rid of some bushes.

I've recently reserved this book, which may appeal to people who like Freakonomics:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Nudge-Improving-Decisions-Health-Happiness/dp/0141040017/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1333086983&sr=1-1
It's particularly interesting because the government has developed a Nudging unit. It's testing things such as letters which instead of saying something along the lines of "your car tax has expired and you have blah blah days to renew or show it is off the road or we will blah blah", write to you with a picture of your car, say "this is your car and we will crush it if you don't pay your car tax" (there was an article in the Economist about this book and the concepts being looked at last week).

Thanks! The friend who gave me Freakonomics for my birthday has her birthday coming up in a few weeks. Now I know what to get for her. :)

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

I don't have a Christmas pot, that is done on and as and when basis when I see a bargain, even if I did have a Christmas pot, it wouldn't even be enough to half fill my tank (my whole Christmas spend is less than what an average person would pay for one child's present)

I could have raided the car tax pot but that has been opened this week anyway as car tax had to be renewed. Holiday spending money is never a lot, I only put spare 1p, 2p, 5p and 10p in it and usually is enough to buy the food shop for the first week we are away.

I'm not going to panic about it, it's school holidays for the next fortnight so my usage goes down naturally anyway (but I still put the same amount in as it has been budgeted for) and if the worse does comes I'll deal with it without panic, blimey, I could just move down to my parents house for a short while as they are closer to the school.

Nothing is insurmountable, a work around can always be found.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

PN, I have a job for you; sitting on the phones answering them, as I’ve got better things to do with my Friday night :)

In at the deep end, eh
Well, that's nice.... except you're miles away and I have no landline for forwarding. Quite happy to answer a mobile though :)

*shows willing* ..... *knows he won't take up on that, but there's nothing worse than somebody finding excuses when offered is there*

They aren't striking anyway now... I was thinking this the other day - they don't need to strike to raise their issue and cause mayhem as the Govt did that for them.

I wonder if the people who don't like mushrooms like peas...
    Hate mushrooms.
    Love, love, LOVE peas!

Fresh/raw peas, frozen peas, tinned peas.
Mushy peas, chip shop peas, overnight soaked peas.
Peas fried in batter (see these in some chip shops)

    PEEEEEEEEEEEAS!

Earnt £1.31 so far today .... all this talk of pots... that wouldn't even reach a pot, it's rent day in PN Towers. This month actually not earnt enough to pay the rent. So also not earnt enough to pay the leccy, buy the food, keep the vehicle on the road.

In fact, I guess I shouldn't be here ... I should be fiddling with some website or other.

Used to hate mushrooms. Will eat them, as long as not too big and black and stinky.

Like peas, as long as they're "normal" round distinct peas not mushy ones.

Might try to fill up with petrol today because I'll need some on Monday but may be in a hurry on Monday but should have plenty of time today, so if there are going to be queues then today might be better.

Marking. Bored. Very bored. Don't care what the temperature of the sun is. Don't want to read any more calculations of it.

Personally, I would just take a respected source's word for what it is. It doesn't seem a particularly useful calculation. After all, no one will be taking a holiday there anytime soon.

The sort of calculation I find more useful is: " I've had £x floating about since the last bond matured. So, do I invest £5000 or so in a fixed ISA, or will that leave us short after DD's wedding and the expenditure prior to the rebuild? Would it just be safer and easier to transfer it into my Nationwide ISA at 3.1%? and forget about maximising returns just now?"

The awful thing is, I shall deliberate like this for days, but I really know already that I'll take the simpler route! :rotfl:
