Hi CKhalvashi - have we seen you on the NPT before? If you're new, then welcome.
I am sitting in my conservatory as I type this. The sun is streaming in, and I love it. This was one of the reasons I bought this house - lots of south facing windows and the south facing conservatory. I'm so glad I've finally got it clear of junk so I can use it for sitting in.0 -

With difficulty! But it's worth it to feel the sunshine on my skin and the warmth in the room.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
Was gorgeous to feel the sun today, rarely has weather made me so very happy but i felt i started to defrost and wake up.
Weirdest sky tonight....only two stars and the moon in an almost teal sky.0 -

That spellchecker is fun too.:D
It seems incredible that about two weeks ago we were still somewhat unsure whether a couple of our Rhode Island Reds were male.
Of course, we know the truth now, but suddenly, within 24 hours, they've both blown their cover by crowing, mating and fighting. This has provoked the resident coc kerel, Ozzie, into working double time, rather than be upstaged. :rotfl:
They don't know how lucky they are, coming from somewhere that will have them back, and not just to grace the dinner table.0 -
Woohoo! Today's lovely sunshine didn't just feel nice and look nice and heat my conservatory for free, it also generated 17.7kWh of PV for me too.
Haven't had a yield that good since 14th Oct. Looking forward to June.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Dave/lir/tom/people in the know: I need to get rid of a couple of medium sized shrubs. Do we rent a woodchipper and then compost in the back garden or get a skip to move it all away?
Oooh, I don't know. The chipper I have is so slow and noisy I never use it, whereas I'm sure you won't cheaply/easily hire one the size of my friend's, which needs a Land Rover or similar to pull it and act as the hopper. That deals with anything and swallows a small tree in under a minute.
Nowadays, I just keep all the branches etc until I have a dryish pile about 8' high and 15' across, and then I burn it. I felt a bit guilty last time, because I used the cardboard recycling and some out of date 2 stroke to help start it:o, but at least I didn't do what the farmers here generally do; set fire to a tyre!:rotfl:0 -
I'll be biking 10-15min each way to work.
Does that mean you'll have to change your sig to hot biker chick?:DPlease stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

I grew up in a village outside of a town (100,000 pop) and most jobs I've done have involved driving 25-50 miles each way each day. I hate commuting, all that wasted time - and the fear of how you'd get to work if the car died.0

Only if hot biker chicks ride pushbikes!
More seriously, I've just been reminded that when I bought this house the surveyor recommended a drain inspection. I had one done, but it was a bit chaotic - I kept trying to get the company to send me a bill and the dvd of the camera going down the drain, but they never did, so I gave up in the end. But I do know they told me over the phone that most of it was fine but there was some trouble from roots from the small tree in the garden, and they'd advise me to take the tree down and then get the drain fixed. I'd forgotten about it, but now I feel I'd better get on with it.
So, do any of the NP know anything about such things? The tree is pretty small - maybe 10ft tall with a trunk about 4in in diameter - so I could easily saw through the trunk myself. Should I do that? I'll check with the planning department on Monday to make sure I don't need permission or anything. Then what do I do next? I know there's stuff you can paint on stumps to stop the tree trying to grow again, but actually I'd rather not have a small tree stump in the middle of the lawn. So what would need to be done to get rid of it down to lawn level? Then presumably I need a drain company to fix the drain. Is there any point in asking my buildings insurance company if they're willing to pay for it, or is there no hope of that since I knew about it before I bought the place?Do you know anyone who's bereaved?
