Oh dear.
The promiseSecurity
Google Wallet is designed and engineered to enable safe, secure payments. In fact, Google Wallet’s security features go beyond what’s possible with traditional wallets and cards.
A locked wallet is a safer wallet
Google Wallet requires you to set up a Google Wallet PIN that must be entered before making a purchase. This PIN prevents unauthorized access and payments via Google Wallet. Android phones also feature a separate lock screen.
Secure technology
Google Wallet and MasterCard PayPass™ provide many layers of security.
Google Wallet stores your encrypted payment card credentials on a computer chip on your phone called the Secure Element. Think of the Secure Element as a separate computer, capable of running programs and storing data. The Secure Element is separate from your Android phone's memory. The chip is designed to only allow trusted programs on the Secure Element itself to access the payment credentials stored therein.
The secure encryption technology of MasterCard PayPass protects your payment card credentials as they are transferred from the phone to the contactless reader.
The realityTurns out it's not necessary to decrypt the PIN, or even hack into Google's Wallet, just ask the phone nicely and it will let anyone root though its innards.
The flaw was spotted by The Smartphone Champ, and unlike yesterday's efforts which required root access and a modicum of brute force, this hack barely qualifies for the term, as it just involves asking the phone to reset the application data. That wipes the stored PIN, but not the card details, so a new PIN is entered and transactions immediately become possible:

Oh dear indeed!
This brings me nicely to my enquiry; has anyone here been researching mobile phones that can access emails? Any tips?

obviously blackberry is the market leader for "mobile email". it is about 1,000,000 times better than trying to send emails from an iphone.
depends what you want to do though. if you are going to use it a lot, and want to review and edit attachments, then blackberry is best. if you just want to read and send the odd email here and there then pretty much any old android phone will be fine.
can't offer much help at the MSE end, but would have thought you could get a second hand blackberry for close to nothing.0 -
Dh hates work blackberry..its annoyingly efficient!
I love the many peacocks.
Its not often you see a misstype in a viva post, so made me feel a teeny bit better

First question is if you have fat fingers?
Any phone that does email needs a qwerty keyboard, which means more buttons in the same sort of space.
Then you need to choose between touch screen and not, the latter being cheaper.
I love my blackberry, its a (now boring) curve 8520, I'm sure you can get a cheap tariff with free phone for about £15 a month.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. work blackberries just make you "on-call" the whole time, even when you're on holiday and are drunk, and are hateful things as a result.
i tried not to have one, and managed for ages to resist, but then one day my secretary just dumped one on my desk. thanks a million.0 -
I also have a cheap as chips Wildfire and it works fine. Not great for e-mail attachments, though partly because I use hotspots, but good for e-mail link up. I got mine for £15 per month plus 750 mins, unlimited texts and a small amount of data that I don't use because I use hotspots, but Percy's sounds a great deal. Be warned though, it has a great screen for Angry Birds and you will get addicted.
Speaking of birds and addictions, I counted 376 in lir's avatar.
