There's a TV programme that I've randomly stumbled across a couple of times, where some American lad goes round the US finding out about restaurants with "huge food challenges" - they go in, film the food being made, then he sets out to get the certificate/eat the challenge. He does surprisingly well too. I will see if I can google any of it, but I can't remember anything except what I've just typed... so it might take me some time and/or I might get bored of searching :)

Edit 1: This isn't it, but it's an interesting website where lots of people have been photographed with huge amounts of food in similar places: http://blog.couponsherpa.com/place-your-bets-40-gut-busing-restaurant-challenges-for-free-food/

Edit 2: Found the programme I meant. Man vs Food. Adam Richman. http://adamrichmanmanvsfood.com/

man v food is getting something of a cult status i think.

i can't stand the look of a lot of the stuff he eats, it basically seems to consist of going into the worst greasy spoon type place he can find, and ordering 10 portions of the most unappetising thing on the menu, and then eating the lot in 2 minutes.

I eat eggs but they make me feel nauseous for some reason :o

I used to feel nauseous eating eggs but I don't anymore. I've been told, but can't confirm (maybe lir can chime in) that chickens used to be fed a penicillin based antibiotic, particularly battery chickens. I'm very allergic to penicillin and used to feel dreadful after just one mouthful, but it never showed up on any allergy tests because I'm not allergic to eggs per se. When I say eggs, I'm talking about lots of egg: sandwiches, omlettes etc, not a bit of egg in a cake for example.

Now most eggs are free range I don't have the same problem as I used to.

No idea whether it is true or not but it would be interesting to find out more.

My favourite sandwiches (I'm a veggie):

    * Brie and walnut with a smidge of mayo instead of butter
    * Brie, grape and cranberry sauce
    * Ementhal and avocado with mayo and cracked black pepper
    * Jam sandwiches made with Tiptree 'Sweet Tip' raspberry jam (it has to be Tiptree)

DH loves that programme. I don't know why because he would never go to any of those places or eat anything they dish up but he does find it strangely addictive.

Occasionally I catch the programme while DH is watching. Mr Richman does seem to be getting progressively larger.

Silvercar, there's an article in today's Indie regarding getting cash for second hand gadgets such as mobiles, satnavs and cameras. Saw it on the newspaper review this morning and thought of you:

    Favourite sandwiches....

    Pork and apple sauce
    Cheese and beetroot

I also love blackberry jam on toast.

Got to take James up to the hospital, I arranged for him not to cross site yesterday as the snow and ice means his joints come out even more than usual and make it difficult for him to get them back in...only for him to come out of school, walk 10 feet across the car park to meet me picking him up and beggered his knee.

To be honest, it was progress that he actually admitted that different conditions had an adverse impact on his health...just a pain that in trying to minimise injury, he then had one!
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Yup, silver surfing is where it is....... :)

Seriously, what I meant was that none of us surfed at all. People went to the beach, but the whole thing with wet suits and big boards was in its infancy.

Places like Croyde and Rock haven't become niche property markets based on the bucket & spade brigade. In fact, when I was young, we gave Croyde a wide berth, because it was notoriously dangerous place to swim, especially for us inland swede-bashers. ;)

Tesco offer 4.44 in club card points for the Walkman if it was in good condition!

The problem is either these things are too old with dead batteries to know if they work properly or we have replaced them because they were starting to fail.

The satnav worked 9 put of 10 times, but the charging is iffy and occasionally it wouldn't charge. So in the 1 out of 10 times the battery dies and you are lost. Now some people would accept that but I couldn't sell it on that basis.

We have a brilliant Charity Recycle shop in a local town here. They price keenly and there seems to be no shortage of good quality donations. Pity Tesco has plans for the site. :(

As our Panasonic upright hoover is getting very long in the tooth, I bought a much newer version there last week for £20. Getting it home, I could see it hadn't had much use, but the rubber belt driving the brushes was broken. It's a £2.50 fix. That's how things are for many people now. "It's broken so I'll buy another one."
