DS's favourite sandwich is pickled beetroot, processed cheese and cucumber, with butter on one of the pieces of bread but mayonnaise on the other. He will eat it in bread, but prefers a roll, as long as there are no seeds on it. He doesn't eat jam, ever. He is not your typical 11-year-old.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
Using salad cream instead of marg (or butter for you posh lot), then adding grated cheddar and a layer of crisps (cheese/onion Walkers are best) .... makes for a fab sandwich.
I rarely make sandwiches as it relies on having fresh bread... and now I have a small freezer I tend to only have fresh bread for 3-4 days, then I have a frozen loaf to get through - and as that's not ideal it can take the rest of the month to get through that using it for toast with scrambled eggs... and right now I have nearly a whole frozen loaf and am out of eggs.0 -
I'm going to get my mates to help me sell the house that I've had on the market since 2007 and it STILL hasn't sold.... and because I'm worth it I'm going to put the price up by '000s too:

Edit: Just double checked my facts
June 2001 - bought for £685k
September 2006 for sale at £750k. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/1527831/Rooms-with-a-view-for-sale-including-island-and-bridge.html
August 2007 it reappeared at £1million.
January 2010 they wanted £1.25 million http://www.dailymail.co.uk/property/article-1245948/Come-buy-perfect-island--Ive-stopped-raves-beach.html0 -
Certainly nothing beats a peanut butter and nutella sandwich with celery on the side.
Speaking as a West Central Scotsman, do both these components need the same length of time in the deep fat fryer?
The celery sounds dangerously raw, and raw foods such as watermelons give deadly gastroenteritis nowadays, don't you know. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
I used to have sugar sandwiches when I was in my teens. And I love egg/salad cream sandwiches. I remember discovering cold fish finger sandwiches - hot or cold, they're a winner (with salad cream). And a good ploughmans baguette (soft, not crunchy) is a treat I've not enjoyed for a couple of decades.0

I should be more cautious in my advice - I keep forgetting that all Glaswegian dietary advice is based on the principle that anything softer than rocks is fair game and what doesn't break your teeth must be good for you.
When I used to visit New Orleans, a great snack there (well it was more like a meal for two) was the po'boy sandwich -a baguette filled with salad, lovely sauces and, lets get to the basics, huge amounts of fried meat, usually battered e.g oysters, scampi, fish, barbecue beef, anything tasty. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

But...."Offers around the 995,000 pounds mark are being considered."
So, it's now heading the other way, albeit that they still want a 2007 price.
Wish I'd seen the boom in surfing coming. When we were teenagers whooping it up at Woolacombe to the resident Beach Boys tribute band, we felt slightly uncomfortable. We knew it wasn't really California.
Now, it doesn't seem to matter, Saw a building plot in Rock last week. It was up for the same price as we paid for our smallholding!
Hmmm.... do you think silage clamping might be the next big thing? It's what this area does best. Oh, and pheasants.0 -

Edit 1: This isn't it, but it's an interesting website where lots of people have been photographed with huge amounts of food in similar places: http://blog.couponsherpa.com/place-your-bets-40-gut-busing-restaurant-challenges-for-free-food/

Any one know berlin well, any thing to recommend in particular for eating/seeing outside office hours?
the greatest sandwich i ever created consisted of an entire sainsbury's baguette filled with 6 slices of corned beef, two packets of crisps and a whole load of mayonnaise. i think i calculated that it provided enough calories to last for a day and a half.
aside from that, the best sandwiches in the world are:
1) fried mashed potato sandwich (bread must be toasted)
2) fish finger sandwich (pref ciabatta, tartare sauce optional)
3) chip butty
4) crisp sandwich (ready salted walkers only)
also, eating technique is important. if you're not hiccuping by the third bite you are not eating it fast enough.
anyway, i've been to berlin but i can't remember too much about it. i do remember the food being pretty ropey all round though. we went in a couple of semi-posh restaurants and the food seemed to consist of pork knuckle and not much else.
i think my favourite thing there was the russian war memorial, which can only be described as a lunatic piece of architecture.0
