Just what I was going to say, but it works the other way at the beginning of the new policy, make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Now this has got me worried. I am changing cars on 29 January and did the change of registration on the Aviva website yesterday. I am going to double check, but I'm almost sure the insurance ends on the old vehicle on 28 January at 23.59 and starts on the new one at 00.01 on 29 January. This would mean that the old vehicle won't be insured while it is being driven just over a mile to the dealership to be exchanged.
Any ideas? Maybe I need to call them up to change insurance to that of the changeover time, but they charge for changes made by phone.
Think I will post this on the Motoring forum too.0 -
Now then Wammer, we can see this has got you thinking not about driving in the 2 minutes between 2359 and 0001, but about your imminent vehicle swap at a more civil hour of the day on the 29th!
Yes you need definitely need to ensure (by communicating with the insurer again) that they will cover the old car up to the point you have disposed of it.
With luck a quick telephone call to some sensible chap or chapess will settle your mind with them agreeing to a simple overlap of a few hours (better get it in writing I guess), unless you get an erk who tries to charge you another fee. That might be typical for the age but would have been ridiculous in the insurance world I used to occupy. If any nonsense arose out of such a call and I was in your shoes, I would very rapidly ask to speak to said erk's manager and explain the curvature of the earth from my viewpoint.
In the good old days (as you may recall) most reputable policies with 'blanket (any vehicle) certicates of insurance' stated that your new vehicle would be covered as long as you notified the insurer 'as soon as practicable' that the swap had taken place.
That's mostly all gone west now with almost all the trust we could once put in financial services companies, hence the palava you describe.
Good luck!0 -

I bought a pair of jeans at the weekend. It quite clearly states on the label that they are 34" inside leg. However, when I got home and measured them they are actually 33.9" long.
Am I being ripped off?
I phoned the store and complained to the Manager but he told me that I didn't have a full leg to stand on :rotfl:All matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves.0 -
Panic over. Both cars will be covered on 29 January to allow for the changeover.0

it will still show on MID as insured.. dont worried about it
Just a quick report back... my policy started at 00.01 on the 24th and my car is currently not showing on the MID
Which is especially great, as I often drive through an area where the police do insurance checks....0 -
I, for my sins, worked for all of two months for an insurance company some while ago setting up new policies. The answers to the question "when would you like you policy to start?" almost gave me a nervous breakdown from people trying to explain "midnight". Ive heard "one second after the last hour of (date)", "exactly between (date and next day)" - those are the two that most stuck in my mind.
I wish I could remember the rest - all I remembered is having my head in my hands and wondering why the hell I chose to be paid to listen to idiots trying to explain "midnight" in the most mind boggling explanation possible.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature.
