for some tips - scroll down to Popular Content and pick your OS. I don't follow his research exactly, but it's very useful if you are just starting out on the tweaking path :) He's done XP, Vista and 7, so just look up the OS you're interested in.

...must admit, I've not started on W7 yet, but when I do, I'll let you know....

Cheers GJ - I'll have a look when I get (currently at work with no chance of speeding up this snail, they're running McRappee )

Sounds very similar to mine. I didnt bother building mine because I got it built for about 280 quid! (That said, my graphics card bumped it up to about 380)

think so, apart from spud's thin client that wouldn't run it at all - it makes mine look quick ;):D

btw, I have admin rights on my works lappy, i5 M540 @ 2.5 GHz, 4GB DDR3 RAM running CSC's XP Pro build - 19.5 sec...

...so why's it so slow in every other department ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Anyone know the minimum number of processes for Windows 7 (Home I think)?

Not claiming to have the least, but, 41 at idle here on Win7 Home Premium 64bit, but I do have a couple of customisations running.

re the slowest score, you could always use a clogged pc with reduced ram.

But, the score I posted for the thin client (386sec) was for a brand new HP XPe image, incidentally with 25 processes running, mostly Citrix stuff. The ram should be 256MB, but I've upped it to 512MB.
    Move along, nothing to see.

Finally, I've been able to run this for myself!

System specs (I've added the motherboard make and model because CPUz doesn't seem to auto detect it):

    System score:

So, is it good, bad, or indifferent for a system that's now over 7 years old?

GunJack: I've only got 1GB of RAM in it, and I didn't have Windows running with the minimum number of background programs, which will have affected the scores, but it's more than fast enough for me (I'm thinking of adding an extra 1GB of RAM to it as well) :)
