    Afternoon all :hello:

Feeling distinctly below par today, the "headache which turned into a cold" is now feeling like the "cold which turned into bronchitis" :( So Im sneezing, snorting and coughing all over the place. The one consolation is that OH wouldnt let me get out of bed this morning - cup of tea, fresh orange juice and a bacon butty served to me on a tray in bed :eek::eek: (I let him go out with the Lads last night as I felt so vile - if this is how he thanks me, well..... maybe the Lads will see him a bit more often :rotfl:
Its a lovely crisp morning, although I wont be venturing out - the frosty air will no doubt trigger my Asthma as my chest is already feeling a bit wheezy. Beautiful sunbeams pouring through the windows, which the Pusscats are loving. Pusscat George also loved the fact that I was in bed all morning, and decided that he was much more important than the Lappytoppy, and promptly plonked his @ss on it :D
OH has now put todays Pork Loin joint in to roast, DD coming round for a late dinner in a bit - she's still suffering with her Kidney infection, so looks like the girls are getting pampered and OH is doing his Headless Chicken impression ;)
Hope you all have lovely days, stay warm and safe
Don't put it DOWN, put it AWAY! ;)

  • Hey.

I made my chicken stock last night, popped all leftover bits into a pan and simmered for 3 hours. Then i poured into jugs and stuck in fridge when cool(read a comment somewhere that it helps fat seperate) when i came freeze it this afternoon, i scraped the fat off the top and poured into containers. But... Its turned quite thick and a tad "lumpy":( <-- cant think of a better word. Is this normal??

Chicken soup turned into more of a chicken curry soup. It was a bit bland so added 2 extra chicken stock cubes, a bit more chicken and a sprinkle of mild curry powder. Will be browsing the forums this afternoon for a different way to spice the soup up next time.

Hope everyones feeling a bit better soon

JG congratulations on Eliza, beautiful little girl with an equally beautiful name.
Afternoon ladies, chilly here today , was -5 apparently here last night, beautiful blue sky atm, no washing out , all on the airers.
Ds is definately on the mend. The swelling is beginning to go down, Still not eating much as to painful . Lots of creamy rice pud in the slow cooker for him, he manages that ok. ;). We are off to the police station tomorrow to look at some photos of suspects, which I suspect means that they have a suspect and are hoping that ds can point him out. One of his friends were attacked last night :eek:, again totally random and unprevoked . He was hit so hard that he cannot see out of his eye , don't know if it is permenant damage yet, and the eye socket has been smashed to pieces:eek::eek:. Horrible place were living in at the moment. Its quite frightening. None of mine are allowed to walk anywhere in the dark , just not prepared to risk it.
Dinner is fish pie , with veggies. Made by my sister , she boughts lots of fish of the fishmongers counter in Tesco this morn for 10p a portion so nice cheap meal, woofer is sitting at the kitchen door with his nose in the air amelling it as he LOVES fish, sure there will be some left overs for him ;);).
This afternoon will be spent curled up with a good book or a dvd as there is cak all on the telly.
Hope everyone has a lovely peaceful Sunday afternoon.
Paul Walker , in my dreams;)

Had a lazyish morning - got up at 9am, DH and DD went to the local car boot, but didn't stay for too long because they said it was absolute tat and it was all traders :(
It seems that more and more people are getting a fairer price by ebaying their stuff, which is understandable.

I got a machine load done and have put it out for a while, I just like to know that it has had a bit of an airing rather than sitting on airers around the house.

I have just kicked DH, DD and DS out to see MIL and FIL for a few hours so that I can get the dinner (Roast Chook) prepared in peace

Welcome to all the newbies :hello:

Oh well onwards and upwards so BFN x

Afternoon all. Today is mine and OH's anniversary but there is no chance of celebrating as I'm revising for my exams :( He'll be over later tonight and we'll get some good time together soon though.
It's really tense in the house today and all round unpleasant, I have given up trying to calmly talk through disputes or even being light hearted and making a joke as both just seem to make certain people more irrate and the situation much worse. There shouldn't even be a problem, someone is just very angry because something has been done but not in the exact way they like it to be done. Think: your 7yo does their homework and gets full marks but gets a detention because they used blue pen when the teacher just likes the colour black more. It is that ridiculous.

Hmmppphh! I won't be doing much OS today, revising until my next break at 6pm when I'll make a batch of soup, then more revision. Oooh, I think that if I get everything done by 9pm, I'll have a bubble bath to calm down :)

  • Hi all! I'm sort of new to Old Style, however I do read it and get inspired :-) I was contemplating making my own laundry powder (not the gloop as I wouldn't have anywhere to store it) but as there is SO MUCH information on the indexed thread I was hoping for some tips. Borax is mentioned however is there something else widely available in the UK that I could use instead? Any recommendations for mixes? Thanks! I have already bought the soda crystal thingies and soap bars, plus I have already got some oxyaction stuff. What can I use instead of Borax - what does it actually do?!

PS I have a chef hubby and small children so I need to make sure stains come out
