  • Its individual choice who sees what you post. I actually saw a friend of a friend's stillborn baby picture which appeared on my wall. I thought it most inappropriate and sickening.

I'm with whoever said they wouldn't like a photo of themselves feeling sick and poorly sent to every member of the family (cos it's usually family used as the defence of FB oversharing)... in fact I bet 90% of those on here whose husband came up to them with a camera when they were ill would be threatening to take some photographs of somewhere the sun doesn't usually shine (and NOT put them on facebook) - and I don't like the idea of a child, who can't exercise the same degree of "oi knock it off and get that out of my face" having, well, what's essentially their privacy, invaded in that way.

For all the cute bathtime photos in the world etc etc - when WE were kids and these were taken there were what? One copy, a couple at most if they were duplicated for grans and grandads... these days - they're all over the world in a click of a button - and it's so easy, that sometimes I think the thought element of what's shared gets forgotten. There's also the aspect that when they're out there - they're pretty much out there in some shape or form forever on a hard drive or data server somewhere. I'm not sure that my most embarassing childhood snapshots (and everyone's got some out there that their parents love to bring out to embarass them) are something I'd want bouncing around cyberspace for all eternity, especially not tagged with my name, linked to my FB with all my details on there - but I'm big enough to untag them (and then get really cross with anyone who posted 'em - especially the ones from the 1980s when I thought that perm was a good idea!), a child doesn't have that choice.

Not on about not sharing photos at all - but some thought into what goes on there I think is only sensible... plus... not many people want to see 9356 photos of the same bathtime or puking incident really!

And yes, I'd agree it was probably posted not to harvest sympathy for the child - but because some people (used to have a few on my friends list) live their lives over FB waiting for their electronic cheerleading squad to raise their like-button pom-poms and approve every single move of their lives.

Some people are complete drama queens on facebook and want all the attention they can milk from every situation.
Which is why I've just set up my FB account to ignore posts from my niece. From the little that I've managed to decipher from her near-incomprehensible ramblings (she's 18 and writes like a demented 6-year-old), her posts are all about me-me-me and how unfair "the establishment" has treated her, or how drunk she is, or how drunk she intends to become. I'd love to post an example, but that would just be cruel...

This was the context; picture of child ill, lying down with dummy in mouth, photoshopped, with the caption 'so ill'

In what way was it photoshopped?

I think just taking a photo of an ill child is pretty weird - in what way does someone's mind work that they think of getting a camera when their child is 'so ill'

Can't you just remove her as a friend?
  • I think you are being uptight and worrying over nothing. If the adult involved has all the security set up then only their friends can view it. If the picture were of the child undressed you would have a point. If its just a picture of a kid a bit poorly then no harm is being done.

You don't have to look. If someone uploads 9356 photos in one album on FB, FB only tends to show 3 or 4 as an update in your newsfeed and you have to view the album to see the rest. So don't look

(Though personally I don't like bathtime or puking photos either and wouldn't upload those!)

If I do that I'd upset her mother. For the moment I've just blocked her status updates.

Oh no, they tend to comment and expect their friends to like every single one - so you get them ALLLLLLL...
