Facebook and children

Is posting pictures of your ill child on Facebook appropriate? I don't think it is, but someone on my friends list has done so (work associate). It makes me feel a little bit uncomfortable!

This was the context; picture of child ill, lying down with dummy in mouth, photoshopped, with the caption 'so ill'

Another 'friend' has set up her son (who is four) with a Facebook and tags him in a lot of statuses.

I despair of people sometimes, am I normal or am I too uptight?

    a) You are normal

    b) It is inappropriate

    and

    c) Time to remove this person from your "friends". It'll make you feel better.

Sounds as if you won't miss much...

  • You are frighteningly normal. Some people are too stupid to be let loose with a computer and internet access without a sensible adult looking over their shoulders. These are the very ones who, in five minutes time, will be shouting about invasion of privacy or p@edos or anything else the Daily Mail usually comments on

Why is it not appropriate? If you have your security to maximum no one other than friends can see your pictures.

Sorry, but I think you are being uptight, even if people can see pictures of them, so what?

The sister of a friend on facebook has posted pictures of her still born child, right after she was born. Now I know everyone grieves in different ways and it is such a terrible thing but I'm not sure that sort of thing should be posted on facebook, especially as her profile is open for everyone to see.

The person who has set up her child as having a facebook page really should have it shut down as I think the age limit for having a profile under the terms and conditions is 13.

I agree totally with this post.

My sister-in-law puts every single picture that she takes (good or bad) up on Facebook, and tags everybody she knows in them - which usually results in me untagging myself and my kids from them all, otherwise they appear on MY page as well.

I think it's wrong tbh and don't think children should have profiles made for them, it's inappropriate, there's too many awful people out there that can easily access these sites and so on. Somebody I know has made a profile for her unborn baby and has a scan picture of the baby's first scan as the display picture. Personally i don't agree with scan pictures being on there either as it's quite a special, personal moment but as we know it's down to the person's own opinion i guess, but i wouldn't do it :s x
    Getting there.. slowly but surely...
    Debt - Was £14,300, now £6,500..

You have little control over the pictures that other people might put up of YOU and YOUR kids.

Maybe the only people that are baby's friends are family. I showed my scan to everyone, probably pi**ed off most people at work!! If facebook had been around I probably would have put it on there too!

Friend of mine generally gets around this by politely asking people in the group that photos of her are not uploaded to Facebook. Works for her.
