Nationwide Flex Account-cash card +

Just called Nationwide to close my credit card account to be told that I have to phone back tomorrow and speak to someone in retentions. I said I don't want a retention, I just want my account closed.
How difficult is it to press a button to close an account???
I take it that you too have had enough of those clowns. The Nationwide cannot be taken seriously.Money is a wise mans religion0 -
Would recommend Nationwide wholeheartedly. Online banking is painfree and you can make single payments exceptionally easily in place of a weekly SO if that was a deciding factor. which would probably get there quicker too (IME)
If you require a weekly standing order it is a real pain having to set up loads of single payments in advance. You have to get your calendar out and work out all the days and dates and then you have to remember the date of the last one. I have a weekly standing order from HSBC which clears on the same day. Given the above I struggle to see how you can think that single payments are a good substitute for a standing order. Personally I cannot take a financial organization seriously if it cannot even carry out a weekly money transfer.
The Nationwide are a Mickey mouse institution who are stuck in the dark ages.Money is a wise mans religion0 -
Many thanks for your comments and feedback.
I'm now In the process of switching over to them.
Generally have low complaints per customer per thousand.
English call centres which is a bonus
Really good internet banking, so I'm optimistic

Wouldn't be to sure about that one as I spoke to someone in the Philippines the other day.money_grows wrote: »Really good internet banking, so I'm optimistic
You've clearly not tried to pay a credit card through the online banking then or transfer money on a SO.
Oh, and as an extra, I'm still waiting for a phone call back from them about the products I have. Still, only called on Friday morning.....Estate Agent, Web Designer & All Round Geek!0 -

It depends on how you define 'low' ... but Nationwide's complaints are significantly lower than most banks.
Nationwide receive c. 0.9 complaints per 1000 customers. Most banks receive 3-4 complaints per 1000 customers. (This is bank account complaints and customers only).Wouldn't be to sure about that one as I spoke to someone in the Philippines the other day.
If they were in the Philippines, then it wasn't Nationwide. Their call centres are in Swindon, Northampton, Sheffield and Wakefield.0 -
I opened a Flex Cash + account in October with them (had to as part of my DMP, amazing how many banks are all owned by each other) I had been with A&L - now 'slap a fee on everything Santander - for about 3 years but as my store cards are owned by Santander I had to move account.
The online banking is so easy to use, when I have had to ring up I have spoken to really nice helpful people and find the in brand staff lovely!
The bank statements are clear & regular (not sure what the above poster was on about).
It's nice to have an account where you have everything available without having to pay for it. Santander started charging when I went into (not just over), the arranged overdraft! I also like having a pink card, girly & sad I know but heyho

Any chance they could have just had an accent? Otherwise that wasn't Nationwide.
....or it could have been someone who is from the Philipines who is now working in the UK....? It does happen, you know!I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂0 -
I've just moved to Nationwide from Halifax, so far so good.
My mother is with Santander and finds them really unreliable.
Also I fear that Santander will take over all the banks, I just hope Nationwide don't let them take them over.I am at a Crossroads in my life and deciding which path to take:coffee:
