I put in a call on Friday morning asking for someone to call me back about my products I have with them and I've heard absolutely nothing.

Nationwide don't pay their executives a pittance. Why? You pay peanuts you get monkeys, thats why.

Opened one this week after 22 years with Barclays. The final straw was when they refused to lend me £10k "because of the way my salary was paid into my account". That followed them all making hefty bonuses while my ISA was losing money.
So will be good to see what the Nationwide is like. Was given a £2.5k overdraft to start - don't intend to use it if I can avoid it though.

Good luck with your new account, I just hope that you do not require weekly, fort nightly or four weekly standing orders. Hopefully you do not require full up to date on line statements either. When you send them a query using the secure messaging feature via their website do not expect a lively reply. When I was with them a few years back it took two days for an over draft to become effective. If you run the account solely on line then you stand a chance of not encountering any problems, involving branch staff is a whole different ball game. All the best.

Just called Nationwide to close my credit card account to be told that I have to phone back tomorrow and speak to someone in retentions. I said I don't want a retention, I just want my account closed.

How difficult is it to press a button to close an account???

I sent them a secure message via online banking. The next day I got a reply "We are sorry [blah blah]. Your account has now been closed with zero balance."

So about as close as you can get to 'pressing a button'.

Would recommend Nationwide wholeheartedly. Online banking is painfree and you can make single payments exceptionally easily in place of a weekly SO if that was a deciding factor. which would probably get there quicker too (IME)

Are there customer service pretty good in your opinion?
I only have the cash card plus card on the flex account at the moment but it seems it will do most that other providers can offer.

IMO, no! When I phoned through earlier going through the 6 sets of options on the telephone the bloke who eventually answered was talking to someone else then put me on hold so he could finish his conversation!

I think that the account can't be used out the UK and has some counter restrictions.

Nationwide used to different but now its the same as the big boys. I suggest you choose your bank/building society on convenience, access and cost etc.

Correct, The Full Visa Debit can be used overseas, Where as the Cashcard Plus is still a Visa Debit, But can't be used overseas.
