DFS Sofa unable to cancel order!

Dear all, I am PANICKING and I need some expert advice. I signed some paper work today at DFS, for furniture worth 3500 k. I informed the sales person that it would be subject to exchange of contracts of our new home. He said he would give me a 'homebuyer's contract'. He said that DFS could HOLD ON to the contract if my house deal falls through (due to the vendor pulling out or faults in the survery etc) and that they would wait for even 2 years or so until I find another house. I said what if I did not find a suitable house, he said as a LAST resort they can cancel it provided I get a written confirmation from the vendors that the deal has fallen through. But I said that due to conflict of interests, the vendors might not do it. He then called up his manager. His maganer reportedly confirmed that as a last resort they could cancel the order.
I also explained to the showroom guy clearly that I needed to double check a couple of items with my husband and he said ok. Today, my husband baulked me for being so STUPID and agreeing to spend such a huge amount. I immediately e mailed them today to cancel 2 out of 4 items and the protection cover for ALL items because we have no children and there is less risk of damage to the sofas. Last but not the least, my husband said just ask the DFS if they can hold on, until X mas sale so that we can get better deals then. I have e mailed them. Anxious what they will come up with. The guy said that he would give me QUOTES anyway when I said that I was not sure of a couple of items. Although polite, he seemed quite pushy. Do I have any rights after signing the contracts (to cancel 2 items and to cancel the protection cover) ? Kindly help0 -
Welcome!
Do you have any of this in writing? Do you have a copy of the contract you signed?

we have done a similar thing. bought sofa and footstool on new years day. the saleman was very reluctant to tell us total price and instead kept telling us monthly payments. he didn't inform us of the leather cover at 220 he put on until after we had signed and never said it was optional would you like it. we then decided we didnt want footstool and they are being funny with us cancelling, saying the order has been sent to manufacturer. Within the first few days it say on ther website their shud be no problem altering an order. Also they won't even have had a chance to put it in planning yet! i'm awaiting thier call but also getting advice from trading standards as we have a credit agreement.I went to DFS on the 2nd of Jan to try to buy a sofa on credit. We placed the order for the sofa and awaited the answer in regards to the credit. However on Sunday the lady rang us up to say that the credit was not accepted in my bf name and to try mine so i did and i got a call today to say that i couldn't get credit. Therefore i then asked to cancel the order but the lady said that this was not possible as she has ordered the sofa and it said on a message we had to listen in store that we are not allowed to cancel. We are obviously not in a position to pay for the sofa or else we would not have applied for credit, and i do not want to ask a family member to take on the debt. Apparently our options are to task a family member to apply in there name or pay a £180 deposit and get the sofa after 4 years of paying off the debt?(Do not want to do this)
I suppose what i am asking are what are the chances if getting this canceled?0 -
Hmmm.
I have just got back from DFS and looked up any problems I might have on the credit side after some unsatisfactory answers from the salesman, looks like my hunch was right.
I wonder how they would feel about signing a contract from me stating that they would have to cancel the order should my finance be turned down?0 -
They have to cancel the contract. DFS NEVER order the sofa before the finance goes through.
It's trick tactics. Simple fact is the sale was subject to finance. I they can't give you finance. No sale.0 -
I have had a sofa with dfs abou 2 nearly 3 years I've tried the police I've rang citizens advice and finance company me and my ex split he kept the sofa and will not return and the only way they are saying is to take to court I've tried for quite a while to resolver the issue I've got a year left on the sofa and don't see why I should pay for it when I haven't even got the sofa help please would be appreciated?0

That is not a consumer issue. You agreed to pay for the sofa, so you have to. Or destroy your credit worthiness.
You have to take your ex to court. Like you've been told. Or end up paying a lot more, when you start defaulting.0 -
I chose a sofa and was accepted for credit in DFS. They came round to measure up and it won't fit through the door (I explained my home dynamics to sales man) I understand I can cancel my credit app as I am within the 14 days but unsure as to where I stand with DFS. They are trying to sell me something else obviously but I would just like to go elsewhere because what I wanted I can't have. Obviously nothing is ordered as it didn't fit.The greatest gift you'll ever learn,is just to love and be loved in return:love:Nature boy - Eden Ahbez0
