Virgin broadband double speed for those still on S package

    I got the emails too and I dont have broadband with virgin media

    the news in 2 weeks is already out there, they are doubling our speed so us 10mb peeps will get 20mb. of course unless they change the useage policy all it will mean is we use our limits up quicker before we get slowed down to 600k from 20mb. pretty rough if you have the new netflik stuff or indeed any of the movie downloads

    To be fair, if you're going to be doing a lot of online rentals of movies (depending on the file sizes) the lowest package isn't really for you :) (as with most ISP's the lowest package is really intended for light users).

    But if they do what they've done in the past (increase the speed you get throttled to, and the cap), even when capped you probably won't be that badly affected for movie rentals and the likes of the Iplayer - IIRC at the moment 20mb even when capped should (depending on area) give 5mbit for non p2p stuff, which is good enough streaming above SD quality with modern codecs (I suspect it's probably enough for 720p with the right codec).
