Seriously what is with the attitude on these forums nowadays?
I've been a member for years and recently anyone who asks a simple question is either made to feel a complete idiot or shot down in flames!
It's really beginning to get to me when I see this attitude more and more on here!
Very disappointing if you ask me!0 -
Well YB has been generous with his time here as he has in other threads. I think you are simply overreacting to somebody who has given you tangible help. Perhaps you shouldn't have gone the sarcastic "I'm not an idiot" route if you later wanted to criticise the (apparent) attitudes of others.0

Well it might be that you didn't click the <thanks> button when two people gave you the answer that you wanted and you then went on to say:Seriously what is with the attitude on these forums nowadays?
Ok, so if I'd posted the number of my savings account and you'd sent the money to it that wouldn't have been risky?I don't think it's particularly risky asking for a sort code and account number
So what would you have checked them against? I asked before and it's a serious question. If you had something to check them against then why would you need to ask in the first place? Seems a bit odd. Even if you had some clever verification method, what about others reading this post in the future?- I would always double check before sending a payment, I'm not an idiot!
Which clearly isn't the case. The reverse of the statement provides a range of payment options including the one you wanted. My statements from Halifax don't have the account details 0 only reference is pay from a halifax current account...
I think you demonstrated attitude first with your "I'm not an idiot" response to somebody highlighting a clear risk.0 -

I had already explained why I had requested the sort code and account number. To be greeted with replies with such a poor attitude was shocking to say the least.
The "I'm not an idiot" remark was directed because obviously I wouldn't just send the money to any old account put up on a forum.
It is dead easy to check the account details are correct with simply posting them into Google. If it brings up the Halifax website with these details then fantastic. I simply wanted to double check I was using the correct details.
I don't feel I'm overreacting - if you look at a number of posts on these forums recently, many of the 'wiser' posters have replied with snippy answers that basically treat the OP as an idiot who shouldn't be allowed access to any form of banking facilities.
I don't take anything away from the time spent on these forums by many people to help others, but sometimes you have to admit replies are pretty poor in attitude.0 -

Apologies for not clicking 'Thanks' this will be done imminently - I had been posting on my phone and didn't see the Thanks tick at the bottom.
I agree it is risky to seek a sort code and account number if you are going to take it as gospel that is correct. As I have since stated I have already sent a payment to the account details listed on the halifax website. As it (by that time) hadn't appeared in the account I was simply looking for a confirmation of the account details - it was simply a case of checking the details on here with the details I had thus saving an international call to Halifax (I'm overseas at the moment).
The reverse of the statement may well have the details, I honestly can't remember seeing them the last time I was at home (November) but next time I'm home I will have another look.
The "I'm not an idiot" is being taken out of the context it was intended. It was written with a smile on my face and was not intended to be taken in the way it seems to have been, so apologies for that.0 -

Because as I have already stated I wouldn't take anybodies account details on here as gospel. If you read my original post I simply asked for a confirmation of the account details.0 -
I don't really understand what the problem is??? I phoned Halifax before going abroad and was given a sort code, 80-20-45 and an account number with 8 digits, I then set up a bill payment from my Santander current account to this account. So when I withdraw cash abroad I ring and make a payment quickly and easily. I avoid banking on line abroad.0

I don't know what the problem is either to be perfectly honest.
I had setup a bill payment using the details on Halifax's website. I sent a test payment of a fiver but bny the second day it hadn't arrived.
I thought a quick and simple message on here asking to confirm the account number would have been a simple request. I had no idea I was going to be treated like the biggest fool in the world by asking what I thought was a reasonable question. I only asked for the account details to be confirmed.
However it's been sorted and the test payment arrived today onto my transaction list so no problem. I only came for some help and advice (as I have given others on this forum help and advice since 2009) and thank you muchly to those who helped to confirm the account details I had held (and for the PMs of support).0
